Default Drove through wave of water

Hi All:

I am a new member and NEW Jag owner. I drove through a giant puddle yesterday that engulfed the car like a wave. I did not stall but would not start later. The car turns over but it seems to not be sparking. Any thoughts?

Hard to know what got wet to cause the problem. You may just have to let it dry awhile. Open the hood in the sunshine. I have an Audi that has running problems in very heavy rain.

To all interested:

The problem was a wet crankshaft position sensor.

There can be serious consequences of moving rapidly through flood water, as in "engulfed the car like a wave". If a lot of water gets into the inlet tract, it can get sicked into the egine, and cause hydraulic lock in one or more cylinders such that a con-rod gets bent and the engine wrecked. I have seen a Rover 75 with a con-rod through the side of the block.

This is common on Minis, their snorkel is low in the front and can suck up water easily. The one for the X350 is also in the front but higher. It is possible for the same thing to happen though. I have heard of many Mini engines being broken this way, I used to have one and followed the forums. I sold it when I found out the CVTs pooped out early and cost more than the car was worth to fix.
