Default Dumb question! How to remove plastic "bolts" holding top plastic radiator cover?

I need to get in to lube the hood releases, etc. and need to take the top plastic panel off. It is held with a bunch of "plastic" screws or pins. I've tried turning them and nothing happens (except I'm destroying the tops since they are plastic). I saw underneath one and there appears to be something threaded with an expanding bracket that holds it in. I've tried tugging pretty hard to see if they would just pop out, and that didn't work.

Do they pop out? Are they one-use-only so I'll have to pop them put and then buy new ones? Or is there something I'm missing? This should be a no-brainer so apparently I have worse than no brain since I can't get the dang thing off....

You should be able to remove them with your fingers if they are the factory fasteners. Hold the outer edge with one hand and turn the centre counter clockwise. That releases the lock and the centre part should raise up. The whole fastener can then be removed.

Definitely not factory. I know what you're talking about; my '97 had those which were a piece of cake.

These don't come out no matter which way you turn them, pull on them, etc. You have to push down to make them turn or you strip the plastic head. Since you're pushing down, they don't come up.

There was some front end work done to my car before I got it; they obviously used something else, so I am now using a chisel to knock them off.... Grrrrr. (thanks for the quick reply; at least I know that I'm not missing something obvious).

Described in the Parts Catalogue as Clips (item 2):

(click on the image to enlarge it)

P/N = XR812941
Quantity = 6

The same design is used on a number of other Jaguar models. Half a turn to release them.

Yup, this is definitely not OEM. Thanks for the pix and part number. I'll be ordering more. This is what was used.

Generic aftermarket parts available at most auto parts store and clearly one time use!

the original ones seem easier to use and hold firmer than ones I got from the car toyshop. I think I will lay in a stock of XR812941
