Anyone know where I can source the special engine lifting brackets 303-749? Needeing to replace engine mounts and check AC Compressor. Only places I could find online where from overseas.
There are any number of generic engine lifting brackets. I had been wondering whether any of these could be used on the Jaguar V8s, and if not, why not.
I lifted my engine using small lengths of chain on each side with bolts securing them to the engine as I didn't have access to the brackets you are referring to. They worked just fine.
Harbor sold me a beam with a thousand pound capacity, for $60.05 out the door yesterday with a 20% coupon. The brackets shown, are way too pricey from the dealer for me.Will have to think, or make something up, or maybe something is already on hand to use.
I made my own brackets from things I had lying around and used a lifting beam I already had too. The flat stock brackets remain in place on each side of the engine and the hook (made from an old U bolt) is removable.
It worked well enough for both engine mounts, one at a time.
BTW, does anyone else think that one of the factory lifting brackets resembles that painting "The Scream"?

Not bad at all. What size bolts did it take?
I'm liking all the ideas guys keep em coming.
Very much along with my thoughts, on the lifting brackets. The Harbor bar is made of two separate bars, ends welded together, to make it VERY adjustable. One of the big reasons i bought it, the other one was the handles, they are nice, & work well. Otherwise would have used a piece of square steel stock, from the neighbors old work out equipment, off of the trash heap, last year, with part of an old bed frame, & my welder would finish the job.
Well Gentlemen,
I've decided to take a stab at cutting my engine block brackets. My brother has a plasma cutter he recently ordered and now to find some aluminum or steel to cut.
I know it's a long shot to ask but, would anyone happen to have the dimensions these pierced dog ear brackets?
Otherwise I'll recycle the ol cereal box for templates.
Well chaps,
I spent day making these brackets. Since I couldn't get the dimensions I went ahead and printed the posted picture as close to life size as I could and used it as a template. I bought a flat cold rolled bar from Lowes and traced the templates on. My brother cut them out for me with his plasma cutter. There were pretty rough but shaped up nicely with a grinder. Spent the day going back and forth from the engine to grinder endging up the curves for clearance. The passenger side came out great. FYI it was initially too wide from the picture template butt trimmed down nicely. The driver side came out short ending under the intercooler hose but will still work. Maybe I'll make another one with extra length if I have spare time. I spent $15 on the bar and 2 bolts.
Yes, Phil! You have a good eye and imagination! That painting is by Edvard Munch:
Cheers, Don
Thanks for the picture, Don. Good to know I am not the only one who sees the resemblance. And it might also resemble what one would do if he forgot to disconnect something before lifting the engine.
I don't recommend it but I lift up the engine from underneath using a jack and a wooden block on the oil pan. Go slow and there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm doing everythig to avoid this. I recently replaced the oil pan gasket due to a leak. Don't wanna touch it. Plus I can use the jack free clearance when I'm under the car.
I just replaced my driver side engine mount this weekend. There was plenty of room under the car with the jack positioned towards the passenger side. Just make sure the block of wood is long enough to cover the majority of the oil pan lengthwise. I've done this twice now with no issues.
Well, I managed to make brackets work. I was hoping to avoid having to disconnect intercooler hoses but my driver side bracket was a little short and didn't have room to bolt the driver side bracket with removing them anyways.
