Engine/Supercharger Cover

Engine/Supercharger Cover
my first post, apologies if this has already been covered, but I searched and couldn't see it.
I like to see a clean, neat engine when I open the bonnet. I have a 2005 Super 8 (I believe the XJR engine is the same) and there is just a slab of black plastic. I expect it is there to muffle sound or keep the rain off.
Can I just remove this cover and give the top of the engine a clean and polish, or is there more to it than that? Will it matter if I leave it off?
TIA

Welcome to the forum PigletJohn,
Most engines are covered with plastic mouldings nowadays. Designers do it give a 'cleaner' look.
They also play a part in airflow and cooling but may not be critical. Members with the same model will be able to advise.
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

thanks, the heat soak thread is interesting. I was looking under the bonnet of an X308 super recently, and his engine looks much prettier and more purposeful than my X350 except that it opens the wrong way.
I may take the cover off just to see how it looks, but if the intake air is going to get needlessly hot I suppose it had better stay.
Will do an intro later.
