Default Engine System Fault

Hello,

I have owned an '04 XJR with 25,500 miles for 2 weeks now. I was driving in traffic the other day, and while making a turn, every warning light came on and I lost all power! Computer said Engine System Fault, DSC Not available, Park Brake fault. Engine was in limp home mode and would not go over 1,000 rpm.

I shut the car off and let it sit for a few seconds, restarted, and it did it again. Shut it off and let it sit for a few minutes this time, restarted, and everything was fine.

It has done this to me several more times now.......any ideas what is causing this?

It would be all wild guessing online. It could be a harness chaffing that is shorting a live feed to the ECM/TCM, etc. Couldn't give you advice w/o seeing the car, except you're probably on your way to a dealer diagnosis.

Throttle Body is bad and I hope your vehicle is CPO. If not its going to cost you about 2,000 USD. There is a web site were you can buy the part on line for around 600.00 USD. Welcome to the club.

Had very similar problem my Jag throwing up all sorts of unrelated fault codes from areas of the car where chaffing wouldnt be a cause unless it was chaffing in numerous places all at the same time!
It was the battery...low battery voltage causes the modules to go into a sort of diabetic hypoglycaemic attack bringing up all sorts of faults like parkbrake, dsc, coolant low, etc etc to name some but these can differ
Replaced under warranty 6 months ago and no faults since

Default Apparently its a harness

Hello,

Car has been at the dealer now for 4 days. They have been able to duplicate the problem, and have been in contact with Jag Tech for several days. Last I heard is they believe it is a harness that is shorting out somewhere. They are replacing/repairing the harness.

Would like to get the car back. Land Rover LR2 as a loaner isnt bad, but it sure isnt an XJR!

Could you try and find out exactly what was shorting out in your harnesss. I am having the exact same problem with my 05 stype. It would help me out alot.

Thanks
Brad

Default Engine System Fault

I am suppose to pick it up today, after almost 2 full weeks in the shop! I'll find out what they say was wrong and let you know.

I was fairly confident it was a harness chaffing, but very hard to commit w/o seeing the car. If you can provide any details to add to my mental DB I would greatly appreciated it. There are a couple places I had in mind that would be affected under the conditions which you described. I'd like to know if yours was one of them.

All the Best,

Default Engine System Fault

I picked the car up yesterday after nearly 2 full weeks in the shop. The tech told me that they were able to duplicate the problem, but it was very intermittent. Because of that, they were not able to really nail down where the problem was coming from. As a result, they replaced ALL 137 pins that enter the computer to ensure that they got the problem fixed.

It was raining very hard as I was driving home, and my Forward Alert turned itself on twice, and a I got an "ACC Sensor fault", as I was driving. They both went away and have not recurred yet.

I think I may have a car with electrical gremlins! I'm hoping to squeeze an extended warranty out of the dealer since I've only owned the car for 3 weeks now!

Well thats sucks. Thats what I'm worried about happening to me. I figure that the dealer would just try something and the problem would still end up remaining. Well good luck with your warrenty.

I had the exact same problem that you speak of in the first post in my 2004 VDP. It was at the end of a 200 mile interstate trip, while still on the highway 10 miles from my house i lost all power, but the engine had not died. I got the parking brake and service engine error messages on the digital display at the instrument panel. it let me rev it unless i put it in drive, then the gas pedal wouldn't do anything. I sat on the side of the road thinking about how much money this was about to cost... I turned the car off, waited 5 minutes and it cranked up - drove it home like nothing happened.

This happened around 8 months ago, and that was the first and last time. They say the english like to tinker, i guess this is what they mean.
