Is the entire assembly for an XJR / XJ8 driveshaft balanced as a unit?
I need to replace the front section only of my driveshaft after an incident discussed in another thread on this forum.
A recycling company sent me a low mileage front section of the driveshaft. The shop says the entire driveshaft assembly is balanced (front shaft, back shaft, etc.)
Does anyone know if this is true or if the individual shafts (front and rear) are balanced independently.
Thanks for the input!

The Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) only shows the complete driveshaft/propshaft including the flexible couplings at each end. It does not show individual components of the shaft available as service parts. I would take from this that the entire assembly is balanced by the OEM and delivered to the Jaguar assembly plant ready for installation.
I would think that a local driveshaft shop could check your repaired shaft and rebalance it if necessary, but there may be issues in doing so that I'm not aware of.
Hopefully other members will know for certain.

It has to be balanced as a unit. There is no other way to mount the individual parts to a balancer. Even if you could....that would take the factory triple the time to do it, so you know it was balanced together.
Google gear and drive shaft for your local area. There are shops that specialize in drive shafts and they are usually very reasonable.
