EVAP "readiness test"...Tech's help please...

So I bought a 2005 VDP, and one of the things my Jag guy did was replace the battery with a new one. In Atlanta, GA, we have to pass emissions tests (as I'm sure others have to in other areas).
I've put almost 500 miles on this thing since they did that and the EVAP readiness test still has not completed. There are no error codes concerning it. They're telling me I just have to drive it. I only have 10 more days before I go illegal with not getting a tag. I can't get a tag until this test completes and it passes emissions.
Is there any trick to get this thing to complete this test quickly?

I searched this forum and others and found other posts talking about how very difficult it is to get past the EVAP monitor readiness test on these cars. The first session I put 657 miles on the car without the readiness test "passing", and this included two drive cycles according to Jags instructions for the EVAP monitor. At that point, the dealer reset the codes hoping that the test would complete more quickly. They've tested my ECM, and there are no system faults with the car.
Since that time I've put another 212 miles on the car. This is ridiculous - I've spent close to $200 in gas. The dealer says these 2005 XJ's have the mechanical EVAP system - nothing electronic.
For anyone that knows, can the EVAP purge valve fail without causing a trouble code? Are there any "user" serviceable parts that can be tested/checked?
