Hi Box,

Thanks for the tip on the Amazon lug nuts.

Have you used them on your car? If so, which wrench size are they? They can't really be both 20mm and 13/16 in. since the two sizes are unequal. 20mm=0.7874 in. and 13/16"=0.8125 in.. The difference of 0.0251 in. seems small, but using a 13/16 in. wrench on a 20mm nut could cause the nut to be rounded, especially if a 12-point socket is used (never a good idea on lug nuts, but it happens). Since the seller lists the nut thread as 12mmX1.5, it seems logical that the nut heads would be 20mm. Is that consistent with your experience?

(P.S. This is a very old thread)

Cheers,

Don

Hey Don! Actually, yes, I do have them on my XJ8. I did however, have a typo in my post. I guess I had the number 20 on the brain. They are 13/16", which is what the manufacturer states. A 21mm fits a little loosely, so you would want to use a 6 point on it.

They all seem to be very loose.

How do you remove the caps ?

And is there a one piece lug nut replacement for the factory nuts?

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ralph

I had the same issue, but it occurred when I had a flat. Nothing more infuriating than having pulled the spare out, jacked up the car, and put a lug nut wrench on and had the stupid aluminum cover come off. Of course, the nut underneath isn't any standard lug nut size, so no spare wrench will work. Had to call for a tow (flatbed) and have this stupid nut taken off at a tire service station.

As soon as I got home, I immediately went to eBay and ordered a set of solid, chromed nuts and when they arrived, replaced the whole batch. Sold the "originals" minus the broken one, to some schmoe who wanted the poorly designed originals. I'd rather have something that functions, rather than something that is a poor but original part.
