Default Foxwell NT 510

Whats the latest reports on this NT 510 Foxwell reader anybody ???
Their on sale for $129 with one FREE car download delivered.
Pretty good price, & if it does all they say it does.
Its moving closer & closer to a dealer level scanner, programming tool.
Supposed to operate the modules both ways, to see if they work.
Also it can program modules, new, as well as old ones, if its possible to reprogram them.
Says that it programs keys, & they can be reprogrammed, so if it does.
That alone would almost pay for it.

Very solid. I don't have the V8 so should be okay even with a tune but I look forward to not having to do this for several more years, haha.

Hi Wingrider. Curious if you ended up with the Foxwell product and if its worth spending the extra for the Foxwell 520?
I have a x202 STR and a modern Citroen C5 (X7).
Been reading many posts and looks like it may be a better option than the carsoft?
I've never had a scanner so looking at least to buy something worth its price.
Found the below post from 'fmertz' in 2019 which seemed a reasonable summary of what's out there.

"Basically, there are 3 options:
  1. Cheap scanner that reads standard OBDII on any car. It has no knowledge of any Jaguar/Land Rover systems (ABS, Airbag, etc.). You can get this as cheap as a few $. Check ELM327 devices on eBay/Amazon. You then need a phone/tablet app to get the actual data, like trouble codes, and some live data (fuel pressure, fuel trims). All-in-all, you should get one of these anyway. Too cheap not to get.
  2. JLR handheld scanner. These devices have a more-or-less complete understanding of all the modules in our cars. They read all trouble codes and can get live data from (most?) modules. There is a Foxwell model people like. There is also an iCarsoft model. I am sure there are tons of others. Should be anywhere between $100 and $200, so a bit expensive, but well worth it in the long run. FWIW, the Foxwell model can be supplemented with software for other cars (there is a memory card) so one handheld device can service more than one car, if it applies to you. These devices can also do some "extra" stuff like add new keys, but somehow not reset transmission adaptations. These devices are probably the standard easy answer as to what to get for most diagnostics functions on our cars.
  3. IDS/SDD from British Diagnostics. It is laptop software in a virtual machine that runs the original "dealer level" software. It comes with a USB cable that reads all protocols from the car. This is the ultimate in functionality, but it needs a laptop to run. The software is a bit tough to operate without any training, and looks dated for sure. The flip side is that it does everything, including updating software on modules on the newer cars, VCATS, keys, transmission adaptations, live data capture of just about anything, original programming of a car to its destination country (like DRL in Canada), etc, etc.. Speaking in theory, SDD lets you enter symptoms, and the software can come up with diagnostics based on all the trouble codes.I am sure a novice user could "brick" a module by applying the wrong sequence of steps, but a determined user can do some advanced functions too. The tough part is to deal with BD as it has historically been very unresponsive to direct inquiries, but seem to have (in the great eventually) delivered on orders people had placed over the years.

The NT 510 Foxwell is a more advanced reader than my icarsoft i930 is.
As far as doing anything real advanced, such as programming things.
Have not attempted yet, been lucky so far in that aspect.
But it does let you look into a LOT of systems, to check on how things are working.
But for the money a very nice reader for any car's emission system.
Then you download the type of vehicle you want specifics on.
The NT680 does about any of the cars out there, for $450.
My next step planned step, is the IDS/SDD with a laptop computer set up.
When i can find a genuine Mongoose J3524 cable, that is no longer made.
But you CAN go in and turn some things on & off, to check out just what things are doing.

I believe that I have a Foxwell NT510, but have only used it once on my 2005 Jaguar XJ8L to diagnose an engine miss a couple of years ago. In that regard, it accurately pinpointed the problem to the #3 cylinder, and it turned out to be a defective coil pack. What I can also tell you is that it's simple to use. $129.00?????? I think that you may be able to purchase one that's even cheaper on eBay.

Without a cell phone to connect to one of those inexpensive readers is eliminated from the picture.
The 510 has more things to operate every time i play around with it.
Take it out and run a scan of all the modules, then play around with it
Its Jaguar program download is far superior to the icarsoft i930's.

i recently purchased the Foxwell 510 and used it to drill down a SRS light.

Good: it reads codes and provides some 'Help' instructions with those codes and it clears them quickly and does a full scan of all modules at once shot
Bad: I've only used it a few times and now it freezes during the auto scan portion. I tried to download the latest update, but the website will not send me the 4 digit code to unlock.
Bad: for the airbag code, it gives the 'P' error number, but does not provide the additional PIN code. The PIN code would have given which passenger sensor was bad so i had to troubleshoot myself which took time.

For the freeze issue, I just have not had time to call them to discuss or fix.
I believe i paid $149, but once the latest is downloaded i believe its a fair deal

As far as the freeze factor, skip auto scan & go to the individual modules.
Then select them one at a time to read & clear.
Some of them do take a while to read
Not having the car running, seems to expedite things on the ones that are slow.

You could check to verify that they are set correctly.

If you have a 2015 model, then you are in the wrong forum.

I got the 530 model, and electrically it is fine. However, the OBDII plug is a poor fit to the under-dash socket. I have a really tough time plugging the thing in. I also have a cheaper generic scanner, that is much easier to plug in.

This male looks like it should plug into the female plug that is emergency lamps button, however it won’t go without trimming this to fit.

This female is the one the hooks to the emergency lamps button.

Hello gentleman.
I have purchased this stereo system and have ran into some trouble. I have a couple male and female plugs that have no mate. I am including pics of the problem children. Any help will be appreciated, since the source I purchased from is worthless on tech support.

Default Issues with stereo

Gentlemen/ Ladies.
Anywho, the issues I have with this stereo is that I get no climate control feedback or controls. It shows 0 on the drivers/ passenger temp, no fan speed control, no vehicle info, no heated seat control and an airbag warning light.
no issues when I reinstalled the original stereo back.

I have uploaded the plugs I can find mates for.

any help is much appreciated.

Please post a separate thread with a title that pertains to your question. Coming into a different thread is very confusing and you won't get any answers??

Wing - I have one, too. I have yet to use it on my Jaguar, which is why I bought the specific model with J/LR info. However, I also have a Lincoln Mark that was missing and it sent me right to the problem - a bad injector. I also used it to clear codes on my wife's Infiniti. I came to Foxwell because a friend had a Merc and it did good things for him. Probably not my shining hour, but all it needs to do is work, right? You are absolutely right about the key code thing. We've come a long way since the dwell meter and feeler guages.
