Front Brake Pads and Rotors for 2006 XJ8?

After an oil change the tech notified me that I needed the front brakes changed. I've been quoted $360 for parts+labor, pads and rotors, but I'd like to know if it's worth it to buy my own parts, if there are any worthwhile recommendations.
I'd like to go to ceramic pads to cut down on the dust. I've been looking at Akebonos, but there are some mixed reviews. As for rotors...I don't really have any idea.
Also, is there a brake pad sensor that needs changing as well?
Car is at 80K miles, no tracking, just strictly daily driving.
Thanks!

You aren't kidding about every other day. I cleaned my wheels less than a week ago and the fronts are now black. The front brakes are still like new and I'm contemplating changing them just to get rid of the grime.

Shortly after I bought my X350, I was told by the local Jaguar main agent, (a very good one BTW), I needed new rear discs and pads. The discs were not all that expensive, and the upside was the exposed cast iron is coated black so one doesn't get that ghastly rusted hub look of after-market discs. Having said that, those discs were recently replaced with after-market ones with no coating. I suppose I have got used to the rusty look now !! Fronts are uncoated after-market too.
I keep pestering my local shop about reduced-dust pads, but so far they are not prepared to recommend and fit them, but I may just put them on myself and see what they're like.

I used drilled and slotted stop-tech premium rotors with powder-coated centres and edges with akebono pads on my wife's 08 Jeep GC its done 100,000 k,s since then the rotors look hardly worn and it stops well for such a big car
I then replaced the pads on my XJR6 with akebonos as well nice to have clean wheels
The rotors on my xj8 are stuffed and the pads are nearly gone
I intend to use the stop-tech rotors and akebono pads when they are totally gone
sick of black wheels all the time

Yeah, brake dust is a major pain.
So, Stop-Tech gives me a #125.20023 for Front Brake Rotor, which leads to this Centric part:
...stupid question, I've got to buy 2 of these, right?
Also, no one is talking about a brake sensor. I was told by the tech that this needed to be changed as well. Does it?

It's very detailed on rotors, pads, bleeding and tools needed with part numbers. If you're not racing, Centric ceramic pads and rotors work great. There is no dust that can be detected before washing the car is needed. You can purchase them at most import car part suppliers locally.

For all my brake stuff I used this guy Zeckhausen Racing
http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...=373_1880_1882
David was super helpful and his price was really good

Recently just have changed on all corners brake discs to Centric's C-Teks and front pads to OEM and rear to TRW + parking brakes. Now I can brake :-) Literally, at any time I need, I want etc. without preparations and calculations of stopping distance haha
)) My rear disks were severely corroded that pads could not even clean the working surface completely
PO stored car for almost a year outdoor including winter without move. I machined them at a day I bought the car but that was just bend-fix.
Also I have a question re brake pedal travel. I just noticed when flushed fluid. Is it normal that pedal continues to travel after intermediate stop of its travel when you push the pedal? Is that some gentle "luxury" feature to avoid sharpness or some malfunction in the system? I can describe like this: You push pedal hard then it stops at some point and continues go slowly to the floor with some "psshh" sound from the bonnet side.
