Front centre armrest compatibility

Front centre armrest compatibility
I have the first pic style of centre armrest in my 2006 jaguar xj x350 4.2 n/a lwb sovereign with rear tv screens and rear led display climate control. I want to know if I can swap it with the style of arm rest in the 2nd pic, are they interchangeable????
This is the version of armrest i have
Can i replace the above pic with this version instead are they interchangeable?
I have this style arm rest currently
I want to know if this style will fit my car?

Hi Mark,
The two styles of armrest depend on whether rear (4-zone) aircon is fitted. If it is fitted, there is a different center console fitted, filled with the aircon system for the rear. There is no room inside this center console for the storage bin of cars without rear aircon. The lift-up armrest that goes on the rear aircon console has no room under it, except for perhaps a credit card. Have a look on the Jaguar Rover Classic parts site, which shows the different consoles and what they contain.

If I understand you correctly, you have 4 zone climate control, and it seems that you have the wrong armrest in your car, because the style of the first and third picture you posted is the one for the version with 2 zone aircon. It is divided in two, the front part slides back to reveal the cup holders.
The armrest of the second picture is the correct one for the cars with 4 zone aircon. As Pete stated, because of the rear aircon underneath the armrest, Jaguar had to move the cup holders up and that's why you have the flap to access them instead of a sliding armrest.
If my understanding is correct, then it seems that the armrests are interchangeable.
Best regards,
Thomas

I don't think the two armrests are interchangeable. The four-zone console is higher to the rear to accommodate the mechanism and the larger rear aircon control panel. The two-zone console has a smaller rear aircon control panel and the armrest slides backwards to open. I think the two-zone armrest would interfere with the four-zone console behind it.

when I had an x350 (very much missed) with the console AC unit, I replaced the console cover with a perfectly matching one from a firm in Britain. Pretty easy job, though I pulled the entire console to lay it out on a work surface to make the switch easier. with shipping to the US it was under $100. I can't recall the name of the firm, but rummage through my posts and you may find it.

Hello everyone:
I have been wanting this answered for months. I have a four zoned a/c 05 VDP. Yes, there is no glove box underneath. The sliding console is wider that the fold out cup holder one. BUT I want the sliding one. I have had both and the sliding one is softer. The fold out one that I have makes all kinds of noises when you put your elbow on it. It creeks and grinds and spits. The plastic is moving around underneath. I would rather have the solid sliding one if it is possible. It looks to me that you would have to slide back the console and leave it there as it is longer than the fold out one. I guess it will look awkward with the armrest hanging over each side of the console. And you would have to change out the locking mechanism in the front. I hope the UK company has one in ivory.
