There was a recall on the fuel cap on my 02 XKR. You might want to check and see if there is a recall on yours.

If adjusting the cap makes it go away everytime, I would start with a new one.

the fuel cap on my 2008 xkr had the same problem. let me know if you figure out how to fix it... the sign comes up on the main dash and then disappears after driving a while.
