Default Fuel door

On my 2004 XJR, the fuel door is popped open; the little catch isn't catching. When I push the button in the car, I can hear the solenoid engage.... any way to get the catch to extend out a bit further?

The catch is part of a cable assembly that attaches to the solenoid actuator which is mounted further back inside the right fender. If I recall, the catch end fits through a hole in the plastic cup around the fuel filler neck and twists to lock in place. Perhaps yours has come unlocked and just needs to be twisted back into the locked position?

Cheers,

Don

Hi Don,
I checked that; it's it place. I think the catch isn't coming out far enough to allow the fuel door to "catch." When the button is pushed, the catch gets pulled inwards a bit to allow the door spring open. I saw some TSB about replacing the cable assembly.
Thanks, Bill

I figured out the problem with my fuel door NOT staying closed. Thought I'd post my experience in case someone could benefit: one of the 10 mm nuts which holds the REM (rear electronic module) also holds the fuel filler flap solenoid in position. The particular one on my car was loose, allowing the solenoid to back out of position, which in turn pulled the catch (which is supposed to hold the fuel filler door) just enough so it would not engage on the door. A simple adjustment and tightening of that nut did the trick.

Nice! Thanks for sharing your experience. Filing this one away for the future.
