FULL volume?

I'm wondering if my VDP's sound system is up to snuff.
can you take yours up to full volume and it's not really that loud? This is the Alpine 300 watt (?) system in my VDP.
I realized I had the windows down and was listening to a CD of Vivaldi's 4 Seasons and I could kept turning it up, until I reached the top volume level (a strange number I recall, like 36).
If I turn up the bass or sub, it gets distortion.
Is my amp out or something? or just not a loud system? It's not all that impressive.

It isn't, by design, meant to be a loud system. You could replace the speakers with 2-ohm units, and hope they are more efficient and will be louder using the same power. For bass, don't even think about cranking that thing up when you're above 1/2 volume...heck, above 1/4 volume is probably more accurate.

Mine sounded good, at low to medium volumes, but the bass was almost nonexistent. I imagine you have one, or more blown midbass speakers in your doors, in addition to the subs in the parcel shelf.
I have two (2) extra midbass speakers and two (2) subs (from a goofed ebay purchase, not my 'blown ones') if you want them. PM me for details and info, k?

Mine, especially on CDs, @20 is loud. @25, it's extremely loud. I'm a music producer/mix engineer, so basically, music is my life; so I know loud when I hear it. The only time I get to 30(& not pass that) is when I'm listening to music streaming via the Isimple Bluetooth which is about 5db lower than norm...

Thanks H20, I'll drop you a PM.
Yes, I'm thinking something it's quite up to snuff.
Thanks for the input Marque.
I have a former career in radio, so I'm pretty big on sound myself; used to get my ears checked every year. Heck, maybe all those years of concerts did take their toll.
If I turn the sub or bass up much in the EQ and have the volume much past say, half way, I get a fair amount of distortion, like a cheap system.
I've even read about the DSP (?) keeping the volume down, that did help just to set it to rear, but still doesn't seem like 320 watts at all.

Just to close this one out, SOLUTION WAS FOUND! Thanks to H20Boy for selling me his good stock speakers and his tips!
After isolating each corner of the speakers, then getting close to listen, I realized that ALL 4 door speakers - the lower ones, were not working.
I replaced them with H20's and did the jump wire solder fix on all of them just to be sure. (you could see the touch of corrosion on each of the speaker attachments, it must get some splash up thru the bottom of the doors at times.
Much louder now and much improved sound. So no, my hearing isn't bad
just 4 speakers!
