Gas Cap Issues

Gas Cap Issues
Good Day -
I ran into an issue today after pumping some fuel. I couldn't get the gas cap to go back into the filler neck. It looks like the cap has twisted so the notches aren't aligned. I just can't seem to figure out how to re-align this thing. I've tried mostly brute force up to now, but any help would be appreciated. Replacements aren't very expensive but I figured I'd check here first

I went out and confirmed that the tabs ARE aligned on my car. The two collars do not rotate like yours, they are attached solid to each other. I can't think of how yours got like that. In any case I think you should just replace it and try not to drive with the cap off because eventually you will start getting evap system codes. \

thanks for checking I really appreciate it- I messed around with it last night a bit. The thicker portions are spring loaded but I can’t get it to rotate more than a MM or so, not enough to re-align it. Replacements are like $30 so I’ll just bite the bullet.
