Default Gearbox fault

Hello all. I started having some transmission slippage and an intermittent gearbox fault issue on cold start up that would go away on its own after I turned off the ignition and restarted. I had the transmission fluid/filter/gasket/sleeve filled/replaced. At 70,000 miles I'm sure this service was due. My mechanic said the transmission drives fine now but the car is stuck in gearbox fault mode so I only have one gear available. I disconnected the battery and ECU fuse overnight but the fault message and mode remain. Do I need to have the transmission re-flashed? The dealership here in Dallas wants 300 for this procedure alone. Does this sound right?

$300 - depends on what they are going to do. Clearing off the fault code and resetting then a test drive to see if it comes back, followed by TCM reflash and another road test, makes that price reasonable. Just a TCM reflash is about 1 hour labour, no software charge.

Can you drive it in manual?

I think I would have the codes read before shelling out $300 and take it from there.

I suggest you take it to an good indy mech for this.
