Default Glazed headlights

Can anyone help me get rid of pretty bad glazing on all headlights. I have tried rubbing compound to no avail, Thanks Edv468

Not sure what you mean by glazing, but oxidation and pitting are are common on polycarbonate lenses.

I just had mine done at a body shop for $50 for the set. They sanded and UV baked a clearcoat on. Look brand new now and should last for about 4-5 years.

Nice info Jahummer, thanks for sharing.

There's also a few detailed posts in the " detailing section" as well as some video posts showing a DIY to do the job yourself, quickly easily and cheaply......
Check it out

True but from what I understand the DIY products do not last very long at all. I wanted something permanent and comparable to factory finish for durability.

I suggest getting a plastic buffing compound and drill-operated buff from Eastwood or similar. The finish achievable is as good as a new unit. You would then apply regular car wax each time you wax the car. This will keep it looking new for years.

That will work, but is a lot more maintenance and not permanent. Why not just go the route I took for about the same money and it is permanent like new and maintenance free?

As I mentioned before they are polycarbonate.

Interesting! I also thought they were glass, but I couldn't understand why they would use glass on a modern car!

Well glass is harder, passes light better, is more heat resistant and does not yellow. They are also more expensive to manufacture. So plastic headlights are another cost cutting move by Jaguar. The previous X308 model uses glass.

Glass will still get pitmarks like polycarbonate, but at a lower rate. The preferred polishing compound for glass is cerium oxide.
