Default Glovebox door issue

2005 XJ8. The pushbutton opens the glovebox door, but the door will not latch when you close it. After removing the wood panel above the glove box, I was able to observe the latch mechanism which is electrically actuated. The issue seems to be that the latch doesn't return to the closed position, so the door won't latch when you close it. I can manually move the latch to the closed position and the door latches fine, but pressing the button only moves the latch one way (open), although after pressing the button multiple times I did get the latch to move the other way, but was not easily repeatable. The latch itself seems fine, it appears to be more of an electrical issue.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I found a few threads discussing it but did not see a solution posted. Thanks, Andy

Sounds like a weakened spring or some lubrication needed-just a guess.

It has been some years since the last time that I had removed the glove box on my 2005 Jaguar XJ8L in order to replace the blower module. Anyways, it could be that some of the padding around the glove box exterior is interfering with the proper operation of the glove box latch.

Thanks for replies, the latch is lubricated and working fine, and no springs seem to be involved. But the electric actuator is not reversing itself as it should, so the latch remains open. I would like to replace the actuator but it is very difficult to get to as I am wary of setting off the airbag. On a positive note, apparently these components are normally quite reliable as I haven't found any solution on a Google search.
