Default Grandson has eyes opened by XK8

I have a 20 year old Grandson who I have not been able to understand because he has no interest in getting his drivers license. When I was a kid that was a right of passage to have your beginners on your 16th birthday.
Between school busses, parents who have driven him everywhere, and no need for back seats due to empty houses he sees no need to drive and I just havn't been able to understand it.
Last evening he came to the house and I showed him the XK8 in the garage, he walked around it, sat in it, cranked up the radio played with the seat and other toys and seemed genuinely captured. Finally he said the magic words; "Grandpa can I drive it when I get my license"? I told him not without me in it. Those curves, wood and leather will convert anyone.

That is Outstanding! I can definitely understand how anyone could be swayed by the look and feel of a sleek XK8! And, is interestingly enough similar, but almost opposite, to my current situation. I have 4 kids, 2 boys (25 & 19) & 2 girls (16 & 11). My boys, like myself, could not wait until the day when they could get their permit and move on from there.

However, my 16 year old daughter is quite content with rides from friends and mom and knows how I feel about my XJR so has not asked to drive her yet. I have had a 99 Durango since 2001 that I've taken excellent care of and, oddly enough, she wants to learn in it. 5' 4", 100 lbs, & wants to drive the lifted, big mud tires, performance mod sticker covered D. So, that's what we'll be doing.

My 19 year old son, at 15, did NOT want to drive the Durango, 6', 220 lb boy wanted to drive the little Chevy S-10 I had as a spare at the time. Wonders never cease.

I think my daughter and I have similar ideals as to the view of the pack based on location; me in the XJR leading and her in the Big Durango seeing over all the smaller ones in front (not that it doesn't have enough performance mods to put it in front. lol)
