Was on my way to get a few lotto tics this morning and cut a corner a little too close, the wheel caught the grass and it sucked me in. No shoulder and VERY soft ground. I was only going about 30-35 MPH (speed limit is 40 MPH) and I travel this road 3-4 times a week for the last six years... The Mrs and I took some pics. I took a lot of video while she took some pics as well. It'll be towed to the shop tomorrow or Wednesday and the I will, hopefully, learn if it can be fixed or if it's totaled. I'm not hurt at all. Was really shaken up at the time though. The homeowner came out and his first words were, "I just re-seeded my lawn. How fast were you going? Have you been drinking?" My blood pressure was 170 / 117, pulse of 96, and O2 level of 100%.

 

Ouch! Never like seeing pictures like this. Hope you are ok.

I'm thankful that you are uninjured, but sorry for your beautiful kitty. The soil in the reseeded lawn had probably been recently tilled and that's why it was so soft. On hard-packed soil you'd probably have been fine.

Heart break indeed! Painful to see but you are ok, great. Follow through and buy that lotto ticket, maybe it will be a winner to put you behind a shinny new Jaguar.

With my 2000 Cadillac STS I accidentally drove into a concrete lamp post in a parking lot at 30 MPH once and the result was similar your pics in terms of damage (buckled hood, bent left fender, separated front bumper) and it was repaired. Of course the aluminum bodywork in the Jag is different. I had a large dent in my 2005 XJ8 front fender and the shop had to replace the fender as they said the aluminum couldn't be worked like the steel could in the Cadillac. I assume the same for the hood - on the Cadillac they worked the original parts and no new parts were used. The Jag dealer might require a new hood and new fender. Not sure about the bumper. Too nice a car to be totaled because of a buckled hood and fender and a separated bumper IMO. Good luck at the shop - I hope Betsy rides again!

Cars can be repaired although the X350's being made of alloy is a difficult repair if the rails bent they will scrap it fingers crossed

I noticed the other day that they are quite a floaty ride I drove my car up the curb by accident 2 weeks ago while driving down the road also at very slow speed

Luckily we have ramp style curbs would have been a mess like yours otherwise

It has taught me to pay more attention when driving these cars its easy to get distracted and they seem to have a mind of there own

My old XJR6 had a frightening tram-lining problem nearly killed myself the day I drove it home
They are a bit like their namseake a bit of a untamed animal sometimes

 

I got the estimate from the dealer. $6,800. I was all set! The NADA is $12,500!!! Would take a couple weeks, but I'd have Betsy back good as she was! Hope. Just got a call from the Ins Co. The under carriage damage was not seen originally. They totaled her. She's at the breaker's yard already. There is still A LOT of good car under there! I am beside myself.

 

So sorry to hear about all of your misfortune.
I hope your mental state improves soon. Perhaps thoughts of a newer, even prettier Jag will get you to that point. Looking forward to hearing about your replacement.

Thanks. This one is different than the past ones. It's like a girlfriend that just dumps you out of the blue. I don't know if I even want to see another Jag for couple days...

 

Can you buy it back from the insurance co..or however that goes??
Does the fix it price include the undercarriage repair? If not, how much extra would it be, would it be worth it to fix it?

Note...1997 I had a black '86 Olds 442 and was hit head on (minor..no injuries). Insurance co. wanted to total it..I was very firm about it NOT being totaled and they eventually gave in and fix it.

the short answer is yes. The salvage value of the car is $3500. If I wanted to keep the car, I would need to forfeit that amount from the total check that the insurance company is providing. I had made a decision last night, that if the insurance company totals the car, if the salvage value was $2000 or less, I would buy it back. But, as that is over 25% of the total check, it doesn't seem economically feasible to me. Even the lowest second hand parts would still cost more than what I I am receiving. I hope this doesn't come back to haunt me. when I was searching for and XJR, there were only two that were in my sites. This was one of them. I don't know if the other is still available or not. If it is, I have to wonder why it is still available after two months.

There are many X350/X358's available for sale. On the other hand you may want the new body style XJ. This may be a great opportunity to get into something even better then you had.

 

At that price id be tempted to buy it back as a parts car and go buy an XJR.
It all depends on if you have room to store and or strip it

I am tempted. I am looking ofr another 04-06 XJR, but I'm going to need all the insurance money to find one as good as this one. If I had an extra $3500 to spare, I would, but just don't...
