Talking Great Transmission Site!

I ordered the tranny fluid kit and sleeve from CTSC and am doing the job this weekend after i had hard shifting from 1st to second, and then 3rd to 4th would slip and now i have a whirring sound when i start the car and a gear box fault error message. That said, its been 135000 miles since the tranny has been serviced and i have been meaning to do it. While doing research on how to change the mechatronic sleeve, i stumbled upon this great website with awesome PDFs full of info and pics. check it out!

There is great information there.

That being said I'm having British Auto Specialists in Calgary do my transmission as we speak (hopefully).

I was going to do the job myself, but unfortunately the J gate needs replacing so I thought, while it's there....

Thats cool. Im actually about to take the dive this weekend. Last night i put my xj8 on the ramps and prepared the worksite by looseing the screws first to make sure that if they stripped i could take them out before going to the shop where i am going to borrow a hydraulic lift. That way it can be as smooth as possible once i get there. I was able to take out 20 out of 21 without issue, the 21st i took out easily with a vice grip. tonight i am going to loosen the filler plug to make sure its a breeze too and then saturday im doing the complete job including mechatronic sleeve. got my kit from ctsc and all looks good!

My 2008 XJ8L and 2009 XF both have the same transmission and I had my local Jag dealer perform the service after I got the service kits from CTSC (I saved quite a bit on parts). Has anyone also had a problem with the transmission coolant line developing a slow leak and needing replacement. Same thing happened on both vehicles so I assume it must be a common problem.

X358X250,
The transmission line leak is a common problem. There is a short rubber section in the steel lines that weeps at the crimp fitting.

Posted in transmission section of forum but looks that is not very popular yet Will repost my question here: whether it is possible to swap 6HP26 to 6HP28 on x350? Both boxes are from jags.

ok so i completed the work at a friends shop. Very smooth sailing, i highly recommend spraying the bolts with penetrating spray before attempting to loosen them. Make sure to have a pair of vice grips handy too. The job is straight forward, thanks to jaguar forums for the write up in the how to link. Got the parts from ctsc and everything was a perfect fit. was able to pump in 6.5 of the 7 quarts of fluid i bought. also changed the mechatronic sleeve which didnt go in so easily, youll have to push it in till its deep enough for the tab to go back up that holds it in. I assume it was more difficult than the old one because of the new o rings having more meat on them. here is a pic of the mechatronic sleeve taken out of the tranny from below.
