Cool Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...Glovebox stuck closed

The glovebox on my "new" 07 XJR refuses to open

Which is a problem, as my glasses are in there!

It took a number of button pushes (sometimes) to open previously. Now, it won't open at all. I can hear a relay? faintly clicking, but that's it

Any tips on opening the glovebox?

So, I removed the glovebox (prob unnecessarily). The release solenoids(?) work RHS once in about 20 button pushes; LHS not at all

Googled the issue (thinking a duff relay; located where ?????).

Looks like probable cause is something to do with "Valet Mode"?? (says google posters)

My trunk (boot) releases OK. This is also disabled in valet mode? So, maybe component issue?

Anyone else experienced with this (stuck glovebox release) issue? Is it a software fix, or component replacement?

I found the glovebox R&R in the forum service manual Body pdf. No idea where to look for the latch release mechanism. Is there an index somewhere?

If the car is in valet mode and you push the glove box release or trunk release button, the car will chime and flash "VALET MODE" on the info screen in the IP. If that's not happening , the car is not in valet mode.

Ok...so I've cycled through valet mode, tried all the (3) keys, etc.

Believe the culprit is the glovebox release solenoid? (apparently behind the RHS passenger airbag facia) I can hear a faint click, and it will intermittently release after sufficient number of button pushes

I'm off to see if I can find in the jag forum pdf manual

Can't believe no one else has dealt with this. The Audi/Porsche/BMW/Mercedes forums have a lot more technical depth - maybe because there's so many engineer owners (like me) out there?
