Hacking the CD player for MP3

We know you can't replace the Jaguar CD player with another one because it uses a special protocol to send all information on a single optical network.
But, the CD player must read digital data off the CD, decode it, and put it on that network. If we knew what leads transmit the decoded signal, we could take any MP3 player with digital output, divert the signal from the sensor into the MP3 player, then send the output back to the Jaguar CD player.
Anyone tried that?
(The optical out is not going to be the right place to patch in.)

I think 34by was referring to ICE in car entertainment, or commonly known as LCD headrest monitors. With the ICE setup, there are red, yellow, white RCA connectors in the armrest where you can plug in ipod for video or other mp3 player for audio.
As for the other option....Audio Connectivity Module
I have added the ACM and this is the way to go for ipod/mp3 integration. About $250-300 if I recall correctly.
Thanks-

@Xeno
A lot of members and myself on the X308 forum had a lot of fun doing exactly as you suggested on the earlier X308 cars.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...armrest-11886/
However, on the X350 the communication between the CDChanger is done using an optical bus (not wires, like on the X308)
Now, you raise a good question...... if you opend up the CDChanger, would you be able to see a part of the circuit where the signals were actually going through wires (that you can hack into) or would it all be on a circuit board, with fiber optic read head in, then fiber optic bus out...... ? Maybe others know the answer.
Personally I have rear entertainment and have a working bodge using that. As mentioned, others here have fitted and had success with the ACM unit

You can splice the digital audio data into the optical transmitter. It takes standard I2S protocol. The optical transmitter chip is OCC8001.
The problem is controlling your MP3 player - like changing tracks, play/pause and stuff. There is no standard for this so it would take quite a bit of reverse engineering.
