I'm talking the rub strip down the sides of the doors and replaced the turn signal light with the round one? I'm seriously considering getting an 04-05 XJ8 but like the way the 06-07 looked without the door trim.
Is the trim just on with sticky tape or is it riveted through the door?

It looks like you'd have to switch out the fenders.

I'm pretty sure the '06-'07 have a sunken area for the side indicator. But I'll have to go out and take a look at my XJ's next time I see it.

I seem to recall the cutout for the side marker is the same for the new or the old version.. they did not change the fender until 2008.. So I guess as long as the car has not been painted on the rub strip should just come off with a little heat and elbow grease.. I will give it a try on whatever I buy should it not be an 06-07.
Although I owned an 04' I never tried to take the rub strips off.

Door Trim Removal - 05 XJ8 L
kthrash-
Just removed trim from my 05 about 2 weeks ago...
I softened the adhesive with wd-40 and used fishing line to 'saw' the trim from the body.
This left adhesive tracks on the car which I softened again with wd-40 and scraped with a plastic scraper. This I repeated several times until most of the adhesive removed.
After softening/scraping, I used a buffer with rubbing compound to buff off the remaining marks.
See pics for reference.
Passenger rear door trim removed, passenger front intact for reference.
Drivers side rear removed, showing adhesive residue.
Drivers side rear softened and scraped, front trim removed.
Drivers side front prior to buffing with compound.
Finished car after washing.
Took about an hour on the first door and an additional hour for the other three...
Hope this helps.

the side repeater looks very smilar to my X type one that I removed / replaced a few years ago.
It was really so simple....using a screwdriver or similar ( being very careful to NOT mark / scrape the paint ) I got under the lense and prised upwards. There are 2 little nubs each side that hold it tight in place, but it should just pop out fairly easily with a little gentle persuasion.
The fitting is even easier and just a case of popping it into the hole until it clicks into place - job done!
You should be able to buy the parts from Ebay or similar very cheaply and its a five minute job

Judging by the parts manual the wing/fender part number changed at the same time as the indicator changed shape so it may not be as simple as you think.

I wonder if the X-type markers would fit? They appear to have a similar shape to the XJ's elongated ones, and are available in clear or smoke on ebay... and only about 20 bucks. The only thing that makes them unattractive after removing the trim is the hideous orange color. Trying a set of clears made for an X-type may be worth a try as an alternative to the ovals. I've been hunting for clear or smoke lenses all around and they just don't seem to be available for XJ's -- but are plentiful for X and S-types.

I wish you luck! I lived in Northern Va and it seemed my cars had a target on them for people to slam the doors into. In one months period of time I acquired 3 major dings on the driver’s side passenger door of my 2000 S-Type and the last one was done by a Cadillac Escalade. People just do not care anymore and have “0” respect for other people’s property.

Haha, I have had mine parked in Arlington, VA (very urban area) for the last 3 months or so and I have yet to get a door ding. Then again, I paid extra for a reserved garage spot and I'm parked next to another guy who has a new car who is unlikely to ding my door.
I also park as far away from other cars as possible (almost) at my office in Dulles, but nobody really ends up parking next to me anyway!

Looks like it will not work, the cut out hole is almost as large as the repeater assemblies. See pic below. By the way, they pop right off by pushing on them from back to front.
