Hello
I'm a newbie so if I act stupid, forgive me
I bought a 04 xj8 6 months ago. It is a love affair. BR green, IMHO the only Jag color. One problem, the head liner is starting to come down. Dealer estimates $1900.00 to repair. I questioned the reason that this was even happening. He stated that Jag was using a thinner material. Maybe the reason. Also, while checking 3 auto upholsters, ALL three went direct to thee right rear to look. They all stated this is where it starts on Jags. They also said the two front roof pillars are also the first to go. Is this an old topic, if so i appologize, if not , has any one else have any experiences related. Thanks

What a rip off. You could probably go to a customizer and get alcantara put on for less than that. I will say that the cheapo headliner is one of the few aspects I have to complain about on my xjr. That, the cheap chrome liner on the shift selector, and the inability to input destinations into the NAV while in motion.

they quoted a headliner replacement, shell and all, we send our out and have an auto upholster replace the fabric and the cost to the customer is $500, yes you can do it cheaper if youre capable and want to mess with getting the materials, removing the headliner old glue, cleaning and then glueing and fitting a new one

Thx for your concerns and answers. Yes the quote is for the board and cover, but they told me they could not recover, had to be board and all. Something about the air bags. A person just doesn't know who is telling the truth anymore at any business you ask. One upholster said he couldn't, another said 2 days and $377 and another will replace at my house in 2 hours and $295. Confusion reigns. Bill

When I bought my Jag it was a lease return,they drove it in fron Orlando and had smoked in it the whole way over to Tampa,so anyway I was planning to take delivery in a couple of days,telling them I wanted the head liner replaced.So story short - I showed up to pick the car up early and went through it with out the salesman,and found out they just filled the car with a smellyCHANNEL #69.I beleve the salesman lost his job over this,"I put a small mark above hand handle above the drivers door when we did the walk through"but I did get what I wanted when I left.Point is they had the head liner in stock,and took them an hour to get it in.

Touch wood my 04 XJ8 with 50K miles shows no sagging.... I just went out to check after reading this thread. I really think Jag have dropped the ball on this one, ANY car should go at least 10 years before this kind of problem starts to show up. I can't believe we have owners with low mileage 4-5 year old cars showing this kind of problem, not a reflection of the expected quality.

Try to find out who your dealer is using (they are not doing it themselves) and then go directly to them. The shop that did mine is the one who the Jaguar dealer uses and the pricing was similar to yours, they were asking $550 or so while the shop they use did it, as I already mentioned, for $350.

One in particular operates a mobile service who comes to your home or business and does the work on site. We had a small Dodge car done about 10 years ago for less than $75 with most satisfactory results.
These are probably the same guys, as mentioned in previous posts, who do the work for dealers. Run this down and let us know what you determine.

I have a 04 xjr with 110k and the sun roof door was the first place it fell now its falling under the sun visors its that cheep backing on the headliner material pluse I live in houston were it gets hotter than the devils nut sack
Gonna have it replaced with black suede. Got a quote for 550.

Question to those who have had theirs replaced long time ago (older Jaguar owners perhaps):
Will the quality of the glue (or process) be as crappy as the original Jaguar quality is?
In other words, I assume you don't have to replace again 5-7 years later and that it will stay up as they should.

Question for those who have taken the headliner out themselves. What is the best way to get the shell out of the car after loosening and taken down? My son in law has a bodyshop and he would take it out. A local upulstery shop can replace the cloth. But son in law wants to ask who has done it before
