I bought a 04 xj8 6 months ago. It is a love affair. BR green, IMHO the only Jag color. One problem, the head liner is starting to come down. Dealer estimates $1900.00 to repair. I questioned the reason that this was even happening. He stated that Jag was using a thinner material. Maybe the reason. Also, while checking 3 auto upholsters, ALL three went direct to thee right rear to look. They all stated this is where it starts on Jags. They also said the two front roof pillars are also the first to go. Is this an old topic, if so i appologize, if not , has any one else have any experiences related. Thanks
My dealer (Alpine Jaguar located in Fort Lauderdale,FL) charged me 440 for it, and it looks better than the factory liner, 1900 is just a lot, like the other members said you might wanna take it to another place.

Did they replace the sunroof liner/ABC pillar material, too? I don't want to have my headliner not match the rest of the material. That would annoy me like nothing else!

It's a common problem. Last week, I bought a 2006 XJ8. I noticed the sunroof liner was coming off the day I bought it. I didn't realize at the time, but the entire headliner was starting to come down behind the drivers seat. I let my dealer know right away, and they immediately offered to fix it without hesitation. The next day, I was in a 2011 XF loaner, and they spent $550+ out of their own pocket to fix the defect. Needless to say, I'll be buying my next Jaguar from these guys. Don't pay more than ~$550. Thats dealer's cost through an upholster.

Okay, got the car back today, finally!

All fabric replaced with Alcantara (except for sun visors, he said he determined that it was not possible to replace that fabric so they dyed it black), all plastic dyed matching black.
Final bill ended up being $500 as they had never done this model before and it turned out to be a lot more involved taking the interior apart including removing the back seat to get to the C pillars.

Just the headliner he said would be $300 in Alcantara and $200 in factory matching fabric.

Anyhow, it looks great! Why didn't Jaguar ever think of designing it this way?

Will post pics later.

I know you all want to see pics, and I will post them soon. Unfortunately after getting the car home and inspecting everything, I discovered a number of issues with the installation as well as broken parts. I have ordered what I need from Jaguar parts and have disassembled the interior myself. As it turns out, it is a lot easier than I thought it would be and if I had know, I probably would have done everything myself to begin with and saved about $300.

I am also having the sun visors wrapped in Alcantara like they were supposed to be (the shop had said it could not be done due to the mirrors being in the way, but I was was able to disassemble them in five minutes).

Everything should be in on Tuesday, including the overhead console & shifter surround bezel that I had chromed just like the ones on Arden's website ($85 total) and hope to have it all put back together by Wednesday. I will then take pics.

I can tell you for certainty the Alcantara makes the car look like what it cost and while I have maintained the interior so well that it looks new and odor free, the new materials make it smell like it was new again! Wish I had done this oh so long ago.

Any suggestions on cleaning a XJ8 headliner with a water stain? Damn drains got clogged and leaked a bit onto the headliner.

I would be afraid to do much in terms of cleaning the headliner. The headliner on these cars is already so fragile and I think you would accelerate any sagging/separation that may occur on its own!

Wow, that looks impressive! Do they warranty it from sagging? Jaguar should've done it that way to start off with!

Thank you! Yes it comes with a 1 year warranty. And yes, Jaguar should have done it this way, can't imagine it would have cost them that much more. Came standard on the Portfolio edition, but only made about 145 of those total, I think.

And I wish I had done it since the beginning too! I never liked it, our cars are nice and expensive and the factory one just looks so cheap. I just waited too long (until I had too) unfortunately. But I plan on enjoying it for a while longer.

$600 for a headliner would put me in the poor house--I am supposed to be saving up for a rock for my gf.

Already blew this month with that $500 bumper repaint!
