headliner replacement in 2004 XJ8
Just redid the headliner in my 2004 XJ8. I didn't tackle
the sunroof sliding cover. You have to drop the whole
sunroof mechanism to get at that. I took the headliner out
the rear passenger door without having to bend it too much.
I removed the front passenger seat to make this possible.
Also, you have to take out the rear seat (4 hidden latches
under the seat) and fold the upper rear seat down (by
pulling hard on the straps that are there to disengage the
latches at the top of the seat) to get at the connectors for
the wiring harness that is attached the to rear of the
headliner panel. Not a fun job. There are way to many
curves in the headliner and while the foam backed headliner
material will stretch, it's still hard to get all the curves
to flush out without any wrinkles. Hope this info helps the
next guy doing this

Yeah, photos. I had mine done professionally (on the '04 XJR) since my experience removing the headliner board on my '77 was disastrous. It did come out the rear door but it cracked and had to "repair" it by using a fiberglass compound. Time consuming and very tedious.... May because it was older than hell... who knows.
