Default Headliner Wiring harness

Ok, continuing the headliner reconditioning on my car and I've run into a new snag. The wiring harness in my 2007 XJ8 is glued into the headliner board. Does the wiring harness get taken off the headliner board or can you disconnect it and leave it on?

I know my car is a different model/year however my harness was glued on and I simply disconnected it and left it in place when extracting the whole thing from the car
if that helps.

I believe there were several. All of which I could access with the headliner lowered a bit and the front A pillars taken off which with me caused a break in at least one plastic clip.
