Red face Heater Valve on a 2007 Vanden Plas?

Looked at an 07 XJ Vanden Plas, have a deposit of $50 to hold it till it has heat. Will then take it out for a test drive, and look it over good in the daylight. From what i've been able to see it's a done deal. BIG QUESTION, salesman was told the heater valve needs to be replaced to get heat, and the heater core is fine. Was under the impression the XJ8's have NO heater valve, the auxiliary pump is used, the doors open, & close instead of the heater valve doing it.Would like to know just where it is located, as my 04 XJ8 does not seem to have one, unless i've missed it somehow.

Assuming you have a V8 - then yet its just the auxiliary coolant pump - there is no heater control valve on them.

Heater cores have been a known issue with the XJ ( X350 ). Are a little tricky, but can be done without removing dash.

Do you any heat at all, or is it just on one side?

Heater matrix silting-up is a well-known syndrome on these cars. In addition, the auxiliary coolant pump, (for pushing coolant into the heater) can also fail.

Thats what i thought all along. Bought it today anyhow, even after i was told the valve was replaced, I sort of doubted thats what they did. But their not going to tell the sales man, that they were told the wrong info, or made a mistake. The main thing is it's got heat now, too darn cold to fool with it now to look real close to see. Still sort of think that they back flushed the heater core, if that was not enough, used some caustic or acidic products to dissolve or dislodge the sludge, then back flushed the core. The valve story is their's, & their sticking to it!!!!

I'm sure they can't provide p/n for the so called "valve" that they changed, and doesn't exist on the car.

My thoughts exactly. With 97,400 miles on the clock, it appears to need little but the usual stuff after almost a hundred thousand miles. Rubber on many of the suspension parts is shot, but the joints are still tight. Tires are in nice shape, hoping for the best with the rest of the car, looks almost like twins in the garage, with two huge beautiful white Jags setting in there.
