Help! 2 different TBs for the 4.2 S/C? Swap possible?
Hi,
My T/S install is approaching completion, I'm in the "hunting for gremlins" phase. I may have an issue with my TB, but I'm not sure. I want to try another one to confirm/deny. I have another maxbored TB which I bought online thinking it's the same as mine, but alas, 'twasn't. It is for the same 4.2 S/C engine, but instead of 4 pins on one side, and 2 on the other, it has all 6 pins in one place:
Can it be made to work with my original system? Any tech help would be greatly appreciated. I've been without my car since the end of September, when the install began.
Is it from a different 4.2 like an xkr? Probably could use with a plug change just need to match input and output wires. I'm Curius myself because I need one for my twin screw install as well
The throttle bodies changed for 2006MY, the one with the single plug is from 2006MY onwards.
No idea if it would be possible to use the newer one on an older car, I suspect not given the dramas associated with the Denso TPS on the earlier models.
My best guess would be that it works, but you need to check the tps track resistance to see if it is similar to the original TPS for just in case. Here you can find the electrical guides to find the correct pin info for your car and the new one: JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource
I know the older TBs (partno 2w939F991BE/2w939F991BD)can be bored out to 82mm, but newer ones could be different (ie expect less wide)
Well the majority of the cars electronic systems changed in 2006MY (ECM, Instrument Cluster, ABS, etc) and they went from having a VID block to a CCF so i doubt very much that there will be any chance of compatibility.
A quick check in the electrical guide shows that the voltage range for the main TPS track output is still the same, so I still believe chances are it could work (I mean it is not hard to get it checked/tested).
Well, went to the dealership yesterday, and gave Cristian the TB.
The system has leaks, insofar as to trigger limp mode. It leaked badly around the TB and chargecoolers, now that's fixed, but there still is one around the exit of the T/S. I recorded a short video, how do I post it? Perhaps someone can chime in.
Cristian (head tech at Jaguar Timisoara) also told me that after you press the throttle, the rpms take very long to drop back to idle, why is that? You can also see that in the video.
After the leaks are sorted, if problems still live on, we'll try to fit the new TB. Interestingly, the post 2006 one has about 1mm more ID than my old one.
You should have NO leaks at all, not even tiny ones. Most can be found easily by simple techniques used for the last 20 years. Watch fuel trims, spray small amounts of burnable gas.
