Default Help!!! Air Suspension Fault Warning

I start my 04 XJ. The front and rear rise up and level out. I drive about 10 mins and the Air suspension fault warning light comes on. I drive to my destination turn the car off about an hour. Come back to vehicle start it warning light is out front and rear rise and balance drive about 10 mins air suspension fault light comes back. What is going on? Any advice suggestions would be appreciated.

Please read one of the many treads on this subject.

When your car is still level the most likely candidate is compressor that is not 100% anymore.

In addition to Xag's sound advice - check the overall condition of your battery. How old is the battery? Voltage before starting car?

I just saw another thread about the battery. My battery is about 4 yrs old. Never had a starting problem but voltage could be slightly low. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi unvpaypro,

You've already received excellent advice from Guus and abonano, and by reading the existing threads you've educated yourself.

There are some videos at the Arnott's Industries website that will help you replace the piston ring, and below are links to photos of the compressor rebuild process on our '04. You don't have to replace the desiccant beads as I did, but I would recommend that you spread them out in a shallow pan and bake them at 500F overnight if possible to help reactivate them more fully than is achieved in normal use.

I would also suggest that if you find any corrosion on the large spring in the air dryer, that you consider opening your exhaust valve to also check it for corrosion and to clean the parts and ensure they are moving freely. I didn't do that on ours but I will the next time I have the compressor out. We've had a few owners report symptoms that could be caused by an exhaust valve stuck in either the open or closed position.

Please report back and let us know how it goes and if your symptoms are corrected.
