Question Help identifying part that fell off XJ8L

I was doing the weeping transmission cooler lines repair this morning, and as I took the air box off I heard something pop and then fall. After looking for quite awhile I found it on floor under the car. It came off somewhere in the vicinity of the air box. I have looked for the electrical connector that connects to this with no luck at all. One would think it would be easy to find in such a confined search area - but for the life of me I can't find it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what this does but I know it is usually attached to the bottom section of the air filter housing. There is usually the other part of the connector with cabling that it connects to and then that part that you have in your hand clips into a hole in the bottom air filter housing.

You should find the other end of the connector hanging down by it's wiring near the air filter housing.

Thanks,

Chris

Thank you Chris. After I posted this I went back out to the garage to put the top end back together and saw the hole for this part on the air box when I picked it up. But the strange thing is there is no electrical connector to be found, I've looked everywhere.

About 10 years ago we hit a 300 pound hog at night, dead center in the front grill, at 70 mph. The car had a lot of front end damage and it is possible that the electrical connector wasn't put back on when the car was repaired. That is all that I can think of at this point, because that connector is nowhere to be found.

No problem. I can't find this part in any parts catalogue. It's clearly a sensor of some kind and mine is connected to electrical wiring. My car is a 2003 and I'm wondering if this is some kind of temperature sensor. I can find other people trying to find out what this is as theirs is also present and connected to wiring. Maybe later cars don't use it but earlier cars do for some reason.

Those green plugs mean that it was not connected to any live wiring.

I think on the XJR that connector goes to the flap motor that opens up in the side of the air box. Bus as has been said the green blobs mean it is not live.

Yes, as long as the flapper motor is connected on your air box I wouldn't be concerned.

While following this thread, my wife glanced over my shoulder at the screen, and commented "That guy could use a manicure."
Some people just don't get this hobby at all!

I can confirm this is just a cap for the wiring harness. Previous replies are correct that if the vehicle was a supercharged model, it would have an air box flap at this connection.
