Help! Jag XJ. Wipers on turns engine off!
I would love to hear if anyone has the same problem as me.
I own a Jaguar Executive 2008.
Last night, while I was driving in the snow, I switched on the wipers and the engine automatically shut off while I was driving.
Today, I have the same problem. Every time I switch on the wipers, the engine cuts out.
I even tried it when I the car was stationary - same thing happened.
Anyone had the same problem - anyone got a solution?
Thank you for your help!

My 2006 XJ8 VDP did the very same thing this morning. This is an all new electrical problem (among a host of others). I suspect it's the battery, but there have been times when the battery had to be boosted, but the wipers worked as normal. In fact it seems that electrical problems relating to the battery can be anything and everything, and not consistently so. Today was the first time that I have left it for more than a week without the battery going completely flat, so I was surprised that it even started... then the wipers shut the engine off!!! Aye Aye Aye.

did you find a solution to this?
my XJR is doing just the same. Running fine but turn the lights on and the engine dies, every time I restart it does the same!
Thanks

Yeah, the problem is the ground behind the headlights. They corrode and break off. Check both sides. I drilled a new hole and put in a new bolt.

Since this old thread is being resurrected, it should also be noted that a failing or weak battery can cause many 'electrical gremlins' chased on these forums.
Use a voltmeter to check the battery across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position. If the voltmeter shows less than 12.6 volts, the battery should be charged for three to five hours at 2 to 5 amps and retested. If there is still less than 12.6 volts, the battery is suspect and should be replaced for the modules to properly communicate across the CAN-BUS.

I would definitely check the earth grounds behind the headlights, and even those that are inside the trunk. In addition, make sure that those battery terminals are clean and snug. By the way, it certainly wouldn't hurt to check the battery voltage while the engine is running. It should read around 14.5 VDC.
