Default Help with squeak when I adjust position of Steering wheel

I have a very noisy squeaking sound when I adjust the steering wheel position up or down. I also get a soft but audible noise when I turn the wheel left or right. I tried to spray silicone lubricant and the left to right noise went away except for the occasional noise. But when i move the column toward me or toward the floor, the mechanism squeaks horribly. I just purchased the car and it is in beautiful condition with 40,000 miles.
Any suggestions?

Thank you,

I get this squeak when I turn the steering wheel; I have got used to it now, Noise comes from just behind the wheel, in the binnacle somewhere. No doubt a cure is £2 in parts and £150 in labour !

Same issue with my 2004 XJR. Only when turning, however. Anybody got any ideas?

Guys do a search on " squeeky steering wheel" ...I'm sure this has been documented in other sections and can be corrected by an additive for not a lot of $$$ / £££
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ueaky+steering
"Ask your dealer for part number C2S48887 or the other part number on the same bottle is 7X43 3F823 AA
Its labelled as 'Additve PAS Fluid' 50ml
Its a very cheap cure if it works for you. "

Default thanks for the replys.. I did search squeaky wheel, but not sure additive will fix

The noise in my XJ8 is coming from the motorized mechanism that adjusts the column up and down when I am getting in and out of the car. I will try to obtain the additive, but when I spray silicone spray into the area behind the steering column shroud, the noise disappears for a while.

Thanks for all your help.

Thanks JimC64! I'm gonna try this relatively easy fix this weekend!

Default Conflating Issues

I think we're conflating two issues. I understood the OP to have a classic noisy wheel when using either the reach or tilt motors. JimC64, on the othr hand, is talking about a noisy power steering pump when turning the wheel. I've not run into a noisy PS pump on an X350.

The squeak when using the tilt/reach is poor fitting plastic parts that rub together when temperatures change and expand or contract the parts. No harm here, just annoying. I've used WD40 too around the steering plastic housing as it enters the console rubber surround.

If you do have a noisy SP pump, the additive does solve that problem. I've also solved it by flushing the ps system and replacing the fluid with a quality brand (not Walmart) Dex VI.
