(HELP!) Twin Screw Super V8 won't upshift no matter what!

Cambo, thank you for sharing your experience! I think I may have rushed into writing all the problems I have, and what I wish to achieve, and mixed them up pretty bad. I do not intend to use software as a band-aid; I opened up the transmission two times, the last time I rebuilt the converter, I bought a new mechatronic unit, and again changed all frictions - funny they were Exedy ones, and they were all burnt when I opened the trans again. I have no idea about what else could be wrong. Oh, I also put in a Sonnax Zip Kit. Still having trouble with 2-3, 3-4, 4-5.
There are dozens and dozens of stories from people who got a "cheap" rebuild and the transmissions shift badly, surge, or just generally don't work properly.
The software part was for trying to get the Jag the performance it deserves - at the same power / weight ratio it gets eaten by just about anything else. I'm so sorry you say it failed in 4 out of 6 cars... but that also means you could get the software out of the transmission, have been able to modify it, and then reflash it. Would it be too much to ask you to share how you managed that? The Jag dealer is open to help, but even though they used the original flash tool, they couldn't get the files on a separate storage unit, so that it can be analyzed. I'm willing to take a chance on this project again. Since all 03-05 ZFs are past their warranty, don't you think there's a slim chance that if one would simply ask Jag or ZF for their numbers, they would reveal them? I know it's a long shot, but.... ?
Jaguar couldn't tell you what the model numbers of the CPU's are in the ZF TCM, they wouldn't know, or care. And ZF definitely won't tell you, because it's a big secret they went out of their way to protect.
I can give you the files which are loaded by IDS/SDD into the TCM. But they are pretty much useless without knowing the details of the CPU that they are loaded into.

Have you gone through Jaguar's "Transmission troubleshooting guide"? There are covered 99% of symptoms including yours. From my experience all the roots with transmission bad behavior are caused by engine (fuel drops, air leaks, misfires etc). Clearing adaptations and relearning are just give you temporary facilitation.
Have you run with diagnostician monitoring major indicators with data recorder in IDS/SDD? Just to analyze what happens at least with engine during your WOTs (AFR, fuel pressure, etc)?

Thanks guys for your replies, I've been away for the last couple of days.
Brutal, I think your high center of gravity really helps putting the power to the rear, along with the VERY steep gears, I think the front wheels don't have much say in a full throttle launch (don't you wheelie hehe?)
I'm very shure you would have zero problems with factory fuel & maf hardware, but I understand that the factory maf maxes out @ roughly 500hp. Previously I did all the bolt-ons, i.e. pulley, ported eaton, full header back exhaust with 200 cell cats, caldoofy intake & K&N cone filter with "semi-cold" air intake. My trap speed was a whisker under 110mph, so that puts me at around 460-470bhp. It would have been a very bad investment to swap the T/S only for a 30hp gain. As you Americans say, go big or go home
Cambo, I've read, and re-read your reply till I could finally get the whole picture, you have to excuse me, but the level of technicality exceeds my amateur ability.
It would be great if you could send me what files you have, at least I could have a beach head.
I spoke to Tom, and he said he has a guy that can reduce the torque reduction on shifts, but that it also means it makes life tougher for the internal components , i.e. input & intermediate shaft, and as such he doesn't recommend it. There is a cure (Nizpro), but the main thing is that we have a glimmer of hope, inthat somehow, the software can be accessed. Or is it the PCM again, and not the TCU? My head hurts
Sochi2014, thank you for your advice, please immagine I did everything that Jag said, with the head tech on the passenger seat holding the official dealer tool. Even after a fresh recalibration, the symptoms remained. I did not do a wot run, however, but after 2 years of anguish, I just want to send the car to somebody that can guarantee me that whatever my gearbox troubles are, they will be gone. I really feel like Tantalus, thirsty and hungry, and inches from water and food. I want to get my fill of 6-700 hp!

you really need to start back at basics . start with
spark plug gaps and part no#s are they correct ,
and also
reading all of the EFI related sensors values . and make sure they are in spec .
how old are the coils / are they cheep knock off's
what is fuel pressure via obd,
does it stay at 55psi or higher at all boost reference ?
does the maf read around 5gallons per second at idle ?
what are your fuel trims reading both at idle and 2500rpm ?
has the throttle been calibrated ? what is the TP at idle
what is the AFR?
what is the MAP load at idle?
what is the iat1 and ait2 , are the reading what there supposed to be ?
all this can be read via obd 2 , and any running off target will cause trans issues .
for how long did you relearn the car after the trans calibration reset ?
it takes a lot longer than just resetting the monitors .

* UPDATE *
*UPDATE*
Some positive news, it seems that, for whatever reason, the engine stopped giving error codes. yeey. I transfered money for a full tank of gas to my tech, and he'll drive it for a week as a daily, with spurts of WOT time. Fingers crossed! Perhaps it took some time for the car to adapt?
Alas, the gearbox is still drunk at full throttle, it should be arrested. Should I chance a used replacement, to see if it works? Or does anybody know a reputable shop, that GUARANTEES that whatever my problems are, if I send them the car, they will solve the issue?
Simon, I couldn't attach pics in the original message, so I'll post them here. Wish you luck with the install!

Hi Andre,
Could you post a link to G & G? Been searching, and all I came across was industrial. Do they specialize in ZFs? You being close would be a major bonus, I would just need to be sure that whatever the problem, it would be solved. I sunk 5k into the trans, and with shipping the car to the Netherlands, it quickly approaches the cost of a brand-new trans

G&G is more a Jaguar specialist, that is where I believe you need to start from, they can rebuild transmissions as well, and if required they can involve a pure ZF specialists

If you contact Raymond (owner, you can mention that I can support as well as you have some modifications.

Without reading everything 2 things i have run into over the years.
1. Misfires can cause weird shifting in trans and other trans issues.
2. Aftermarket coils have been shown on more than a few occassions to cause trans issues just like misifires. I imagine it sets up electrical spikes or electrical trash that may corrupt messages in the can network and lead to these issues. Just had car that had the trans replaced for tranny faults by a shop and then they brought to us when still did the same thing. Turns out it had some aftermarket coils. Replaced them all with oem and fixed. Just throwing out some info

UPDATE 02.2019 - car finally works!! 😀
Hi everyone, just to give an update, the car is back from Holland, where Andre's friend finally sorted my transmission. It had been previously poorly rebuilt, and died during testing. Another core was found, and using new parts and my new mechatronic, it was finally road worthy for the princely sum of 3100 Euros (so that's 7 or 8 thousand Euros total in the gearbox ) At least the car runs great now!
I lost my patience with everything that went wrong, AND we are expecting a baby girl, so my wife made me promise to get a new, quiet, four door family car, and no more big engine this time. I got her to agree that if I fulfill those conditions, I can have whatever car I want. So I got a Tesla Model S P100D. Yes, I'd make a good lawyer 😈
Unfortunately that means my time with the Jag will be coming to an end... it's very sad, I've had the car for 13 years, I was barely out of my teens when I saw her rolling out of the cargo bay, and onto our lawn, on that warm September afternoon in 2006...
Time moves on, I guess. However, I MUST make a 100-200km/h video, to see how she stacks up with the 63amgs, etc.! For you guys in the States, the equivalent would be 60-120 or 60-130?

Hi Matt,
Sorry to hear you're selling up! Although I'm sure the new Tesla will be a lot of fun! Are you selling it as is or are you intending to take the KB off beforehand?
Regardless I'd like to see some videos, I haven't quite got mine finished as yet.. Well it's finished and driving but there's a pretty big vacuum leak somewhere and I've not really had time to look into it properly (since November )
Take care.
Simon.

Sorry for hijacking is that oil catch can? I've been told by rang rover owners that all that oil buildups in jaguar's intake is due to EGR, proved that their modification of the same SC engine doesn't have EGR and their intakes are clean as tear. Before you installed catch can, did you check for an option of deleting egr on both program and physical level? Thanks!

But regardless my EGR is disabled in the time file I have on the car, but is still physically located in the normal place.
I am hoping that between EGR delete and a catch can that will prevent the intercoolers getting choked with oily deposits.
Simon.
