Problem reports with the HID headlamps are very rare on this forum. Of course, all bulbs eventually fail, and HIDs cost more, (but last longer). There is also additional electrics stuff to support them, as these HIDs are similar to fluorescent tubes, so there is a little bit of kit called a "ballast" that can also fail.
What has caused problems and lead people on a wild goose chase is the lighting switch on the steering binnacle. This is a much more common failure point and causes all sorts of funny things to happen. Not a super-expensive job to replace.
