Hidden Terror

I was driving home enjoying the unseasonable sunshine when I hit a not to big bump in the road, this was followed by a great scraping sound from under the car. I stopped and looking underneath I saw that the fuel tank strap had rusted through and was dangling down on the road
. I gingerly drove about ½ mile to my local garage where I left it. I was called by the mechanic to have a look at the damage, obviously I needed a new strap but looking across at the other one that wasn’t much better, but the real killer was there was a 4” split in the plastic under tray. My mechanic being nosey had shone a light in to discover a really badly corroded brake pipe, when I gave it a quick tug it split.
Moral of the story if there is a plastic tray, take it down and examine what is underneath, that brake pipe was completely hidden also just check those fuel tank straps. My car had its yearly MOT 6 weeks previously, but because they are not allowed to remove anything they would not have seen it. The straps are not a stock item and have to come from Jaguar but only cost around £20 a piece about 30 dollars.
