Holy cow, I bought it.
I'm sitting in the used car dealer lobby waiting for them to write the deal. I'm buying an '05 XJ8 VDP. Burgundy with ivory interior/brown piping. It's really sharp, 54k miles, service records, one owner, etc. Ask was $21,990, taking it for $19,000 "subject to my inspection and their providing service records." inspection because they werent able to let me put it up on a rack today. Absolutely would not take $18k & in fact came back to me with $20,500 and then 19,600. As we stood up to leave they finally agreed to $19,000. Now Im panicking that they actually accepted. Help me out guys... Tell me everythings going to be ok....

You MUST Get an Independant Inspection!
I sure hope everything will be OK, but I cannot say that yet. You absolutely MUST get an independent inspection of that vehicle fast - gotta find a real quality Jag shop. Particular areas of concern include the front bushings (oil leaks), transmission oil leaks, air suspension, alignment, and sagging headliner.
IMHO, the price you are paying is quite high for an 05 with those miles (two years ago I turned down an 04 XJ8 VDP for $10,000, bought an 07 for not much more than you are paying), so best be sure it does not have ANY repairs due. You may have a really nice car there, but if you find ANYTHING wrong, make 'em eat it. Do not be afraid to demand your money back and walk away if they give you any static - you will be happy you did. Good luck

Yes but that was 2 years ago, agreed both cars are 2 years older but the used car market has gone crazy. I've basically decided to do nothing for the next 3-4 years due to the crazy used prices and lack of inventory. Also cars luxury cars coming onto the market in the next few years will be few and far between, I also predict a flood of base econoboxes and mid range cars with few options coming onto the used market, both due to the effects of the recession.
At the end of the day I'd say that it is also a bit overpriced for an '05. Locally I've seen an '06 XJR with 60K miles that has been re-listed countless times on CL, for $19K. It is the wrong color IMHO (base white) but it is well optioned.

FYI, I purchased an 05 XJ8 L with 49K miles for $18K at the local Jaguar dealer last month (August 2011). Car had Xenon lights, nav, voice command, bluetooth, heated front and rear seats, and heated steering wheel. Excellent condition. I wanted to get the car for $17K but $18K was the lowest they would go (they were asking $20K on the lot). Car was clean and had lots of options, so I went ahead with the purchase.
From looking at ads on the Internet and Ebay, I think I got a good deal. Many of the ads I have seen are for the same or more money, but with cars that have more miles and no options. Because the car was clean, well maintained, a nice color combo (light blue with dove interior) and nicely loaded, I am happy.

Congratulations Jim!
I bought a 05 XJ8L the 6th of July with 52K and paid $16,900. (Platinum with Black Interior) It was a one owner car that was bought and serviced at their local Jag Dealer. I received all records. She now is about to turn 55k and I have been VERY happy. It is always an expensive proposition for repairs however so I shopped for a Platinum aftermarket warranty which I purchased for $2k - its good for 4 years and up to 101k. (peace of mind) Enjoy your ride!!

Which warranty company did you go with? I just bought an '04 XJR with 59K, and I'm just a little bit nervous about major repairs. It's my first Jag, so I'm not sure what to expect, really. I bought it because I enjoy it, so I'm not stressed too much over potential service costs, but I might look into an extended warranty if it looks like it's worth it.

Here is the info (below) on the Premier extended warranty. The company name is US Direct. Hector (number listed below) was very informative. They do try very hard to close you during the call. Keep in mind they started at around $3400 and as I kept saying no, I finally got to Hector's boss who said if I purchase right now he could go to $2097 absolute bottom line. (sorry in my mind it was $2k) I had the same company's coverage on my Corvette although I never needed it so I still don't know how they handle claims. There is a 45 day "grace" period before the warranty activates and any claim can be filed. I sure feel more peace of mind with that warranty in the glove box!
Congratulations on your intelligent decision to activate your extended vehicle service contract while you still qualify. Statistics show that your decision to protect your vehicle will most likely save you more money than any other form of insurance you currently have. In about 10-14 days, your application will be processed and you should receive your contract in the mail. You will enjoy the peace of mind knowing that your finances will not be disturbed whenever a repair may be necessary.
Important Benefits
Claims paid by credit card directly to the repair facility.
Honored at the licensed repair facility of your choice.
Parts and Labor coverage included.
Rental and Towing coverage is included with most plans.
Increased vehicle resale value by offering to transfer the warranty to the new owner with most plans.
I am happy to answer any questions, and I am looking forward to your call.

That is a good price. I read over your contract and it specifically states that the throttle body and the air shocks/air springs are not covered, two things that are common issues with these cars. They also limit the labor rate, so unless you have a good independent repair shop that bills at the national rate, you will be liable for the difference of what the dealer charges. It also sounds like they only cover the specific item that has failed and not any other parts related to the repair. What is your deductible?
