Default How does underhood air get vented in the Portfolio

Hope to get an answer, because my car has serious heat management problems.

I have two options, either cut the hood up like a ricer, or try and mimic what the 2006 x356 Portfolio did, and get the hot air out via the sides.

I'd like to know if any of you know how the air gets from the engine compartment to the side vent. I watched what a X356 looks like with the fender off, and by the looks of it, there is no access for air from the engine area to the fender area. I snapped a pic of a clip from youtube.

Would some of you ladies/gentlemen please enlighten me?

I believe that the original side vents built in by Jaguar are not for dispelling the heat from the engine compartment, but that they are either fake, so a styling gag only, or just to dispel the heat formed by braking from the wheel well.

So, not really a help to you if this is the case. I think that having vents cut into the hood is the only viable option.

Best regards,

Thomas

It's been so long, so I don't know if what I remember is real, especialy since back then I wasn't interested in the subject, but I recall one owner toom a pic from the engine compartment, and you could see the vent from the inside.

Any portfolio owners on the forum? Could you confirm?

Of course, best case scenario would be a portfolio owner who took the fender off...

AFAIK the X358 Super V8 has operational side vents (not sure what it vents though, and not sure about "Portfolio"). The standard X358 and XJR have fake side vents. Have a look at some Super V8 photos here.

Why do you have a serious heat management problem? No-one else does, assuming the coolant system is in good working order, and you're not doing nitro or something?

I Hate the fake vents on my X358. Ian Callum has said they are real, but he must have been referring to the Super V8.

This might be the first car I've owned where people can't help commenting "nice car mate!". Happens regularly. But I live in trembling dread of them asking "Are those fake side vents?"

Well I have 1 3/4 uncoated headers, 2.5" exhaust, and a 3 liter Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger instead of the Eaton. Trying to make everything work. To make things worse, i am using an open cone filter element; positive displacement superchargers are extremely sensitive to flow restrictions. I have water/meth, but that is only for mid / wide open throttle.

I feel you on the vents; whenever I picture the hood with heat extractors, the theme from Tokyo Drift begins to play in my head )
