How to hold first gear with the 6HP26?

When puttering around at slow speeds, I find it quite annoying that the tranny shifts into second gear at any speed above 1mph. I want to stay in first so that I can get maximum acceleration if I want, and also benefit from engine braking.
Does anybody have any ideas on how this can be done? I'm not averse to jumping wires, tricking sensors, etc.
While I'm on the topic, I'm intrigued by the possibility of getting the transmission to think it's "hot" so that it enters hot mode. This should get it to speed up it shifts and reduce the amount of slip it allows with the torque converter lockup clutch. To do this would require fiddling with the transmission temperature signal. Not a huge deal. Just wondering if anybody has done this before.
