The definitive answer is found in the VIN at the bottom of the windshield/windscreen on the left side.
The 11th character shows the engine type. T is supercharged.
VIN 11th character = Engine type
My car is badged on the trunk/boot lid as an XJ8 L but it is a Super V8. It's something for the Japan market, I don't know why.
I thought that, under the bonnet, there would be a supercharger! On top of the engine instead of those "mangled" 8 pipes?
Apologies to anyone with mangled 8 pipes. I make do with a V6.

You are correct sir, the things we listed are the tell signs visible without opening the bonnet.
I can't ever think that a guy would buy an XJ8 without opening the bonnet...
I concur
Regarding exterior hints, one can also come from the wheels: if it has 17" wheels, it is not supercharged!
The 17" only fit n/a versions (including V6 petrol and Diesel and the 3.5 litres V8), as the brakes on the supercharged versions are biggger and 17" wheels will not fit anymore, only wheels starting from 18" upwards.
