I wish to have a three cars garage so I can keep the 97 XJ6. The 1997's interior, exterior, engine, suspension, and transmission, etc.. are in top notch conditions. Its only has 98,000 miles. Who ever gets this 1997 locally will be a happy camper for long time to come.

Annamiata the so called "Sport" was not a separate model but a car equipped with the Sport airbag susp0ension instead of the ones labeled comfort. If you can get someone with a scanner that can read the Jaguar proprietary codes they can input the serial number, run the diagnostics and give you a look at the way your car is equipped. If it as the Sport bags it will show-up
I am pretty sure its not equipped with Sport air bags since it ride pretty soft.

After a full day of exterior detail, I got rid of all the fine scratches using a buffer machine, foam pad, and 3M no silicon polish compound. I buffed all exterior surfaces and now it has a show room condition appearance. I left the remaining three deep scratches alone. I will fill them with clear resin, multiples stage sand, and then buffing.

When the new design (represented by your 2004) came out, there was a lot of controversy because it was not as low-slung as the older version (2 inches taller I think - to give more headroom). "Low slung" implies sportiness. What are your thoughts on the driving comparison between the two? Is the older version clearly a more sporty feel or are they roughly equivalent, or is the newer one more sporty?

When I parked both cars next to each other, I like the look on both.I like the detail curvatures on the 1997. The 1997 does look sportier due to its low profile. The 2004 is more modern/smooth design. The 2004 used the cab forward and taller design and created more interior room. Parked the 1997 next to 2004 and I can see the front portion/bonnet/hood of the 1997 appears too long. I bought the 2004 for the lady of the house and she noticed that she can not see forward as well as the 1997. She also immediately noticed the blind spots from the two side pillars from the 2004.

The 2004 XJ8's suspension system is still too soft for my taste. It's not fair comparison since I drive a modified Mazda MX-5 with coil over and supercharger on the weekends. I wish Jaguar would design the Active air suspension 2004 and forward with selectable ride comfort.

The 1997 XJ6 suspension is softer than the 2004. It bounces (boat like) over pot holes.

There no questions that the X350 is a better car and there no questions that the X305 is the most reliable Jaguar.

Thank you for the comparison. I've really enjoyed the ride, comfort and reliability of my XJ and am glad I made the decision to hold onto it. A Mazda MX-5 with a supercharger must be a little rocket and a lot of fun to drive.

I always wanted a XJR since it first introduced and the MX-5 was my answer to counterbalance the thirst of going fast on twisty road and not having the XJR in my garage. Its super reliable and easy to fix and modify. Its a blast to drive. The MX-5 has a similar timeless appearance as the Jaguar.
