Well the first problem is my RPM guage. At idle the thing sits at the 4000 rpm mark... Like wtf is going on there? I know the engine is sitting quietly in park idleing but yet the rpm guage reads 4000rpm. My second problem is that my transmission hits hard between 1st and second gear and feels like it may be slipping. I received an engine light and a fault that read "gearbox fault" on the dash .. Again I have no idea what this means. A trip to an indy shop and I was told I need a new transmission and a complete new cluster !!. I don't know what to do if someone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated because im lost and confused and depressed over this.

The rev counter problem may be causing the tranny problem, because engine speed is one of the inputs to the TCV. Having said that, a rough change 1st-2nd is quite common as the box wears slightly over time, and is normally cured with a TCV reflash.
Does the rev counter move or is it stuck at 4000 ?

well Im happy to report that my problem has been solved ... !!! Looks like I had a small leak coming from the transmission. an O ring or something. They took down the oil pan did a fluch refilled it and the vehicle is running like new. Seems the tranny fluid was rather low.. Thank God thats all it was...

Tach went back to normal as well. I only have a slight kick down now but almost rarely happens . I was told a computer re-flash would cure this? Is this true? How much does this typically cost? Also for anyone wondering about if they should or should not do a tranny oil flush to them I say DO IT ASAP !! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !! night and day after the tranny oil flush .. NIGHT AND DAY !

Hi Jsedita74
Tranny reflash is one of the cheapest jobs there is, (at least it has been for me !). No charge for the software, and about 30 mins labour, and that was a main agent. The software is downloaded from the Jaguar WDS website usually.
The leak on these transmissions is usually not the sump pan seal, but the O-ring seal around the socket where the connection is made to the TCM which is located in the transmission. I had mine done in October as part of a tranny fluid and filter change at a local independent Jaguar shop.
BTW, your Jaguar looks lovely and so does that Merc. Is that yours ?
