Default I think my husband is selling my XJ8 too cheap!!!!

Hi All!

I'm hoping that you can help me. I have a 99 XJ8 with 107,600 miles on it. The car is mint, with the exception of the roof liner sagging in the back. Car runs great, tires are still great, nice wheels. It's beautiful! I've probably put 30 coats of wax on it. The car has only had 3 owners. My brother, my Dad and now me!

We have 3 teens driving now though and we're going insurance poor! My husband has a friend that is interested in the car for $5,500. Seems low to me, but I might be bias because I've treated the car like a baby!

I've used this forum to figure out a lot about this car, and I'm hoping you can give me your advice.

Thanks a bunch!

~Anne~

Hi Anne, I've looked at other XJ8 models in the area and without seeing the car and spec, it's very difficult to advise.
There are models out there in your area fetching a higher price but in general, the mileage is lowere and without knowing the extra details whether the model is vanden Plas, Sport or other, I am unknowing however the XJ8 owners near you will have a better idea and I hope they are onto your post too?
Jaguar service history, detailing of any modifications/repairs/bumps/scratches or wear and tear may bring the price down and definately will be unfair to you as a careful respectful owner, but that's the way the business is when you are at the sharp end. If the car is immaculate, bodywork, engine and trim are outstanding you may fetch more but if your gut instinct is you are selling at a give away price, then I'd definately seek more advice!
Good Luck and Regards Anne, Stu

I agree with stuart, but if you can get 5500 i would take it. I got a 95 vdp for less than that and it has 27,000 miles and still smells new. Did need tires though
that car should not be more than other to insure, drop liabilty and dont let the kids drive list them as restricted etc. Talk to your agent. I helped my 18yo daughter buy a xtype and my mom had a fit saying insurance was alot higher! Actually mom its no more than a toyota corrolla or camry of the same yr, i compared...

Thanks for your replies Stuart and Brutal! We had a little bit of rust in the back wheel wells repaired, and my Dad had the water pump repaired. Other than that, nothing other than general maintenance repairs. I looked at the title and it doesn't say Vanden Plas but I wondered how you can tell otherwise.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Sounds like you have a standard xj. Also the upper chain tensioners need to be done as this is a engine failure causing component.

I so surprised by the low resale value Satterfield! My son drives a 1999 Chevy Jimmy that's worth about the same amount. Hard to believe! It's such a beautiful car!

differant class of vehicle, and yes the Jaguar was alot more money than the Jimmy. so are the parts regardless if the car is 14 yrs old. I see this on virtually ALL luxury cars. they become cheaper in the resale market because people know(should know, not all do) that a luxury car needs to be cheaper since itll cost alot more to fix and upkeep for parts than your standard Ford, Chevy etc.. Nothing like someone buying a cheap luxury car and getting a luxury car repair bill. Parts for a $20k car are alot cheaper than a $60K car.
your best gauge for your market is to check Auto trader and car ad listing. Also Kelly Blue Book. I could sell a car in a salt market(Northern road salters) for alot more money when it comes from a southern climate just because southern cars are not rust buckets in the body and under carriage.

One of life's hardest lessons is that our posessions are "worth" exactly as much as we can get someone to give us for them.

This number seldom agrees with what we perceive to be their "worth".

Best of luck with your sale.

I wish you will, and by all means get all the market will bare, we seem never to get what we think a car or anything else for that matter is worth, Good luck with the sale, Satterfield , PS-----cars do not rust in the South, they are transported here,
