Default Ignition Key Replacement

Bought a used Key Fob and blank Key. How do I change out the key in the fob? Tried a search, but didn't see anything. Am I right in assuming that the new Key/Fob will need to be programmed by a locksmith or dealer?

DOesn't the Owner Manual tell you how to change the battery ? Part of this is separating the key from the fob, so one can get at the battery. A reprogram will have to be done to your new key. When I bought a second key, the original had to be programmed as well.

Splitting the key into its two parts to change a battery also allows the key part to be replaced.

Default Key Replacement

Bought a new key blank from UK, and a nice used remote. Got the key cut and will get it all programed when I travel to a larger city. So far, I'm into it about $60.00 and programming looks to cost $50.00. So, for $110.00 I'll have an addtional key and remote. Not sure how that compares with the dealer but most quotes I got were for about $300.00 new. The key blanck is held in the fob by a small roll pin.

You're doing OK so far on cost.

Update:

Got the key/fob programmed and remote programmed. Total cost was $109.00, so I'm happy with that result. It seems to be hard to find a locksmith that has the correct computer to program the keys.

When he tried to program the remote, the instructions were what I have seen on the web but it didn't work. I told him to try it with the door shut and it worked.

Next project is painting the rotors black, calipers silver (silver car) and finishing with red Jaguar decals.

i agree with you Gribblet! its really hard to find an independent locksmith with the right equipments for programming. when i lost my car keys ( that happened over a year ago) i called the dealer to ask them how much was the cost for a replacement key they. and guess what? £350 just for a new manual key and programming but they also wanted me to bring the car to their garage (which was impossible because i didn't have any key to drive it, i know i know! was suppose to have a spare key but i managed to lose that too ) anyway the towing company wanted £110 for that. is it really the expensive to get a replacement? so complicated! anyway after a lot of research and calls i was lucky to find one here SEARCH UK mobile car auto locksmith replacement car key suppliers | Car Keys costs | Key Speclaists | Trasponder Remote Fobs i got charged £180 for the new fob key and the programming was incuded plus he also gave me a manual spare for £40 .. i had the best deal after tons of calls i did.. everybody was either not able to do it or too expensive, some are either higher than the dealer!
