Red face Im a New Jag Owner and have some questions

Hi Their,

I bought my first Jaguar 2 days ago from a little dealership. Needless to say some problems are popping up, dealer wont warrenty issues other then what was agreed on previously. I found out later it was bought as it was As-is even though told it would have a 90 warrenty. Shady business.

Ok here is known issues

Trunk boot was not operational when I bought it, the boot light is stuck on in the car, dealer agreed to fix it so I could pop it from the button inside and from key fob. Dealer ordered in a part to fix it.

I found after taking it home that the key fob doesn't work to lock the doors but it does to unlock the doors. My thinking is because the boot is not working properly this could be the cause of my key fob not working to lock the locks. It works to unlock the locks and to arm car. what are you thoughts?

While driving it I hear a low hum coming from the steering when I turn it left or right, only from the wheel no where else.

I took it through the car wash the other day and shortly after pulling out I had another problem pop up on the dash " Air Suspension Fault" What is that? I told dealer they will look at it but it will prob be out of my pocket?

IOther then these issues I am enjoying the new ride. I never dreamed of owning a Jag because of the price I picked this up for $6,999.00 with 114k miles hope that's a decent price the outside was in almost mint condition except for one small piece I need to order on the underside of grill...ill take a pic and ask about that in another post someday. The inside is all black and its in mint condition.
am located in MN we have 1 Jag dealership. I didn't realize how exspensive these cars are.... :-/ $249 to tell me the code for the air suspension fault. Does anyone live in my state and can recommend a trustworthy place were I don't have to sell my arm and leg to service this car?

Default Maintenance Records?

Were you able to get any maintenance records? Have you done a Carfax check to see if there is anything reported on your car?

Carfax only shows what has been reported but should show at least some dealership work that may have been carried out.

The air shocks could cost you quite a bit depending on what the issue is. Lots of
information on that area in this forum.

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

Welcome by the way.

The hum is a known issue with these cars. Search for it on this forum and you'll see a few threads on the issue.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-wheel-102885/

If you have an Advance Auto or Autozone, they'll read your codes for free.

The Air Suspension Fault error message should be on your dash. Is your car level or is one side lower than the other?

Welcome to the forum carmelnsilk,

Running a Jaguar is 'hands on'. That's either hands on your tool chest or hands on your bank account. You'll save yourself a lot of $$$ asking the right questions here.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. The "Air Suspension Fault" is the less urgent message on the air suspension, the other, more important one say "Car Too Low". If your car is the correct height and not lowering overnight then it all looks OK in the main, but the air compressor has a habit of wearing out its piston seal. If you get the codes read, you may see C0203 Reservoir Plausibility Error. Doesn't tell you much, does it ? Actually, it means the compressor is taking too long to charge the reservoir, and commonly, because the compressor seal is worn out. Our member here 'bagpipingandy' makes and sells a seal kit which many members have bought and used to repair the compressor. Of course you can always replace the whole thing, there are plenty on the internet for around £300.
When you get a suspension fault, the CATS system that varies the shocks between Hard and Soft, defaults to Hard until the fault is cleared.

At 114k miles the car is not yet even half-way through its likely life in service, some cars have got up to 300k+ miles. Of course the maintenance has to be done religiously to get to that sort of miles, and you'll probably have to replace several suspension bushes along the way.

Can you describe what happens when you try to lock the car with the remote. Does nothing happen at all, or does it lock then immediately unlock ? If it does the latter, try looking in turn at each chrome lock lever on each door. If one doesn't move when you try locking, then that door latch needs replacing.

As said above, try to find a local independent Jaguar specialist if you can, because Jaguar main agents charge a lot for labour.

Carmelnsilk - after you do the above, introduce yourself here:
US Midwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Ask for recommendations on a good indy mechanic in your area. You'll hopefully get some good answers and maybe meet some fellow Jag owners near you in the process.

Have a look at the stickies at the top of this forum https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...k-links-20085/ , https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ownload-10582/ , https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-know-112913/ . Lost of information in there including workshop manuals. The key fob not opening the doors could be as simple as a fob battery replacement but use this forum's search function for each of your issues and I'm sure you'll find others that have been through them before. Welcome to the world of Jaguar.

If the boot latch (trunk) is not sensed as closed, it will not lock via the fob, but will unlock. If the boot latch does not sense closure, the lamp will remain on. Both conditions point to latch.

Thank you, Yes I did get some from Carfax. It was brought into the dealer regularly every 5k miles it would seem and a few extra times. I think some check ups or maybe routine stuff. I have looked at the possible issues and it could cost hundereds to thousands and if its thousands I may end up selling it because I don't know that I can afford to currently fix it. Turned out to be a shady place. I thought we were getting a 3 month or 4500 mile warrenty on major stuff and the thing they had me sign said no warrenty I thought it was for extended warrenty stuff. anyways the things they were suppose to fix they didn't put in the contract because they said they had fixed them and me being gullible and trusting assumed they did and well now legally they are under no obligation to fix them...which could leave me in a whole lot of trouble. I am not handy with cars. I did call around and found a exotic car shop who services jags. They charge $109 to do a engine light check/code reading and will give me a free diagnostic of the other issues and they always told me of a half off coupon. have perfect ratings online bbb and yelp and other places. I did not check the power steering fluid I don't know how lol. However my husband said he thinks it sounds like rubber rubbing on medal inside the steering wheel culum. The dealer I got it from said that it is a seal that needs oiling...not sure I buy it. but after they have their time with it I am going to for a second opinion which I would have done before I even purchased it if they didn't play it off as I had a 3 month warrenty and make themselves look trustworthy. Hopeing it all turns out well cause it really is a beauty.

Thanks for the info on the suspension kit, Atleast if I find a reputable outside mechanic which I think I may have, I can come here and ask info and maybe find cheaper parts for them to use etc.

The doors- Ok key fob works to unlock them all, key fob doesn't work to lock them. we push the button and all it does is make 2 beeps but no locking. When we push the button on the inside to lock all doors and unlock it works fine on all areas...its only the key fob. My husband has a logical idea. The boot is broken we ordered a part to have it repaired, the boot doesn't unlock from the inside or from the fob, to lock the boot we have to manually with key lock it and unlock it. the light it lite all the time on the dash " boot open" beeps and then is quite but ever annoying reminder lol. My husband thinks the reason why the key fob doesn't lock the car doors is because the boot is stuck in open all the time even after we lock it manually with the key the light is still on. Once this is fixed he thinks the fob issue will go away. Basically the car thinks that the boot is unlocked so the mechanisms don't work. its a sensor issue and the shop is suppose to fix it.

What do you mean by lamp? As in the inside car lights? the trunk lights?
