Default I'm thoroughly confused, VDP or not?

Hi again guys, still browsing Jags and came across a bit of a conundrum. There are two black 04's with tan interiors, looking at the pics, they look to be the same size, length wise. However, one claims to be a VDP the other a regular XJR. The VDP does not have tray tables or screens in the headrests. The VDP does have leather piping on the seats that is a contrasting color. Other than that, I can't tell what is different.

VDP: http://www.wizleasinginc.com/Dealer-...i8xk%2ftCCM%3d

Whaddya think?

Aren't both cars VDPs ? Certainly there is no XJR there, as this has a supercharged engine and neither of these cars seems to have it from a look at the engine pics. The first car is described as an XJ8, and the other an XJ8 VDP.

Don't be bedazzled by a lot of gizmos, at these mileages, condition of the car exceeds all other considerations. Full maintenance records essential.

In the 2004 model year, there was no long-wheelbase version of any XJ.

That resumed in '05.

Sorry, to ammend, I meant that the first one is a regular XJ8, Not XJR.

And thank you for clarifying that there is no LWB for 04.

Thanks guys!

Do the '04 VDPs have tray tables on the seat backs?

No, only LWB VDPs have rear picnic tables. LWB was introduced in 05.

Apologies for the thread hijack but I have to share an observation.

What is it with Jaguar and refusal to offer LWB cars right from the get-go?

The Ser I XJ was introduced with a short wheelbase. After 3-4 years Jaguar offered a long wheelbase version....which eventually became standard issue.

The X300 was introduced initially as SWB only, with LWB following a year later....which eventually became standard issue (well, almost).

Now, the X350...SWB only for a year or two and then a LWB offering?

Cheers
DD

...there was a link someplace here that would identify the type of vehicle by inputting the VIN.

Can't find it.

In the XJ8 FAQ quick links sticky, there is a pdf that I used to confirm that yes, it is a VDP according to the VIN.

However, can anyone tell me what the difference is? I thought the whole point of the VDP was that it was longer, had trays and monitors in the headrest. This one has none of that, so what makes it different than the XJ8?

Thanks all!

in 2004 the VDP came standard with all the options available on the Standard XJ8

ie...

Heated seats
Navigation
piping in the leather
HID Lights
rear sunshade
etc...

Monitors were an OPTION (and part of the rear entertainment sytem) on all x350 jags, except on the Super V8s and portfolio editions where they were standard equipment.

oilstain,

I owned a 2006 VDP. Here are the key differences that I am aware of to a stock XJ8:

> If you look closely at the VDP pictures showing the dash wood and door wood, you will notice strips of boxwood inlay. The standard XJ8 does not have this feature.
> The VDP has wood on the overhead console. The standard XJ8 does not.
> The VDP has premium grain leather. The XJ8 does not.
> As far as the tray's go, I think the 2004 models did not have the fold downs's whereas the next generation 2005 & 2006 model's did.
> VDP wheelbase is long, unless you have an XJ8L.

Thanks,
Michael

What BR said.

VDP would have xenon headlights, 16-way adjustable heated front seats, heated back seats, chrome plated rear view mirrors and alpine premium audio standard. All these are optional for the XJ8. The nav may have been standard as well, but I'm not 100% sure.

Rear seat entertainment was optional except super v8 and portfolio as steam mentioned.

My 2005 has what BR said as well as your list above, but I don't believe I have Xenon headlights. How would I tell? I have recently found the original window sticker for my car, NAV was the only option listed.

As for "premium leather", I have looked at several "base" model XJ8's and the leather looks the same to me. Is it that there is "more" leather in the "premium" models or is it actually a better grade of leather? With Black interior it is more difficult to judge the quality of the leather as black die covers all ills...

It is hard to tell, but the leather on a VDP is a step-up in regards to the leather quality / type that Jaguar uses. I believe it is also slightly a softer grain leather in appearance and feel.

I agree with Dave the leather does seem similar, especially in black where there is no contrast piping/stitching. Don't get me wrong it's good leather, IMO better than what they put in the new XF and XJ.

This is sample of the xenon headlights:

This is a regular halloged headlight:

Based on those links, the Xenon headlights were not standard equipment on my 2005 VDP, it must have been an option.

The VDP is a big step up in quality of leather and general interior visually. The lambswool floormats are beautiful.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I think the wood veneers are also different and include a boxwood inlay (line accent).
