Installing OEM Navigation into 2004 XJ8 (without nav)
#21
Hello, very impressed you did this. I just bought a 2007 XJL without nav, bluetooth, or sirus, and want to convert as well.
As I am a new member, I am unable to see you pictures as of yet, but look forward to seeing them in the future.
I am just now trying to purchase the parts...seeing the head unit on E-Bay as well as the player. Other than the antenna and wiring between the unit and player in the trunk, what else might I need?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Bump,
Just bought another Jaguar, this time a XJ8 without navigation, but looking to install an OEM navigation, as in I don't like the look of aftermarket navigation systems. I tried going to the link on the UK website version and it doesn't work anymore.
Also, I talked to a couple of people about this that could do it, for a ex$pen$ive price, but one showed me a motorized install of a iPad in the dash of a Chrysler 300. If I hadn't have seen it live, I would have just ignored the thought, but it actually looks clean and much more modern and functional than the OEM navigation system that the Jaguar '04-'08 XJ-series offers.
Would you recommend getting an iPad installed too?
(Was thinking about making this it's own thread, but searched around and saw this first.)

Unfortunately, Phillip has visited the forums since 2011, so you're not likely to get any response from him. The conversion can obviously be done, but is a very labor intensive, and costly project, not to mention the reprogramming involved to 'add' the different components to the car. The number of members who have actual experience in that project is probably limited to the ones in this thread. Getting someone to give you step by step instructions will be difficult. Sorry to be so grim, but I place this type of a project in the same category as 'swapping a normal aspirated engine with a supercharged version'...for the very same reasons.

Last year I purchased a 2008 XJ8L specifically without the factory nav. My plan was to replace the factory radio/cd player unit with an aftermarket one. (If the car has factory nav which integrates with the climate controls, I don't see how a change in the nav/entertainment unit is possible.) I did not attempt this myself as it is way beyond my skill level. A local stereo shop did the install. I went with a double din pioneer unit with everything-dvd player, nav, sirius, bluetooth, backup camera. In doing the install, the shop determined that the new unit would not work with the existing fiber optic wiring and speakers. Long story short, from the pioneer unit and everything it touches - speakers, amps, etc. - was replaced and installed. I'm very happy with the quality of the system and the current tech level of the nav and other features. The entire job, parts and labor, was about $4,000. I'll be keeping the car a long time and see this as a worthwhile investment.

H2Oboy. Thank you for your response. I am pretty mechanically enclined and don't really need step by step instructions but maybe just a few questions answered if you might know. I have the opportunity to purchase a nav unit for 1250. He might even through in the wiring harness. Does the wiring harness for the navigation and stereo system plug into the main wiring harness? My understanding is that all of the interior will need to be removed to put the wiring harness in. I really like my jag but would like this upgrade if possible. I have replaced the shocks with reman shocks from Arnott industries and also the air compressor. Did this myself. I also have a extended warranty for another 70,000 miles. I don't want to trade the car just for nav and blue tooth but would like those additions. Maybe I should look into aftermarket. Any suggestions?

Hello Jaguar Fans. Just bought our first Jag, it is an '04 XJ8. Very excited - gets delivered this weekend. Have been a Jag fan for years and just couldn't pass up a great opportunity to own a car I've loved.
It does NOT have factory navigation. I was able to source a navigation head unit, including climate controls, from a 2005 XJ8 VDP, which also includes the DVD drive and computer. Not sure what is included in the way of cabling, but it says some cabling is provided. It should be arriving early next week as well, and I will know more then.
Now I know this install is tough, based on what I have seen from other posts, but I wanted to find out if anyone has themselves or has heard of someone else successfully making the upgrade. I owned a custom stereo install shop for 10 years so I have a lot of experience, and am looking forward to the challenge. Just wanted to take advantage of all the experienced owners out there.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide. I know the dealer will do it for $6K (i've seen on other posts) but this is a DIY-or-bust install (computer programming aside, if needed).
