Unhappy Instrument cluster will not go into test mode

Well the title describes the issue.
The 04 XJ8 presently refuses to go into the test mode.
Has always worked before, but not now
Does anyone know why, & how to remedy the situation ?
The 07 will not either, ever since it was purchased.
Being a later year, is it supposed to?
Apprecite any & all assistance in advance

Decided to remove the steering wheel & adjust it yeaterday.
Was a bit off center from when the a/c pump was replaced.
Did a hard reset, while the battery was disconnected, to remove the air bag.
Everything is back to normal now,
Am at a loss to understand why it stopped working in the first place.
Just glad it works again, almost like having a built in reader from the factory.

How do you get it in test mode?

Press trip button in & hold, then turn ignition on, release the button five to eight seconds later.
Scroll through the information by pressing the trip button .
Hope this helps

I think the instrument test mode was removed, possibly after 2006. I know it doesn't work on my 2008 X358.

Tried that but unfortunately 2004 would not cooperate.
