Default Interior trim - child tethers / seat anchor covers - info purposes

I just received 3 of these child tether/seat anchor covers from SNG Barrett. They go on the front portion of the rear package shelf where it curves to meet the rear seat. There are 3 of them spaced across the shelf where you would attach the hold down straps for up to two child safety seats. You can forget about used ones as they are doubtless not a big salvage yard item and likely to be trash anyway.

They're not that sturdily connected between the covering flap and the plastic bezel that surrounds the metal connector and would break apart after a very few uses if not very careful. Also from the remains that I found they are prone to damage from the sun as the plastic begins to crumble.

At almost $80.00 with shipping for all 3 they aren't cheap but I couldn't stand the hard metal points being exposed all the time and bought them purely as a cosmetic fix. We no longer have to worry about child seats...thank God.

Default Bezel removal

I agree, those bezels are not well engineered. I may have to bite the bullet as well on a set of them. Do they just pop out?

Default child seat covers

I put a dab of silicone on mine to hold the cover in place. I don't have kids so don't need to use them. All 3 of mine were broken as well.

Yes, they pop out pretty easily. If you have any of the actual covering flaps left and you don't expect to ever use them I'd use a spot or two of super glue to attach and forget. If like me you don't have the flaps the only recourse is to live with it or buy the replacement parts in the correct color or as close as you can get.

Thanks, RD. I bought the car w/2 missing, and the 3rd was hingeless and spot siliconed on, and very rough due to deterioration (UV/heat?). Just ordered 3 new ones from Jagbits in "ivory", not the same as "sand" (my interior) but I think is very close. I plan to "STP Son of a Gun" them, and maybe spot glue them closed. I won't be using the anchors, but someone may, one day.

I have an XJ8 with gray (dove?) interior. These broke a long time ago on mine and have deteriorated in such an unexpected fashion. It must be UV damage. I am so surprised Jaguar would chose such cheap plastic for these items which are fully exposed to sunlight.

I still have all 3 covers and would really not like to spend $100 or so on replacements. Does anyone have any experience in painting these types of plastic interior parts? I was thinking, I could fill the holes/imperfections with some kind of grout or caulk, smooth it over, and hit it with thick gray spray paint... The color does not need to match, as long as it is close...

Any advice?

Thanks!

I just glued mine back on when the latches broke

...and as a current owner with kids that use car seats - and my wife is a bit of a car seat fanatic- none of the new ones use those tethers. I don't know if it's old tech now or not, but all of ours attach to the mounts in between the seat bottom and back.

You might check post #1 in this thread as I bought 3 from Barrett and showed pictures of what they looked like. The real problem might be finding them in grey. Off hand I can't recall what I paid for all three but it certainly wasn't $100.

Just looked it up. They were $14 each plus shipping and of course my car is a 2004 so your color codes and names might be different.

just fyi, I checked with my wife, guru of all car seats, and the tethers are often used for forward facing car seats (ours are all rear)

Mine kept popping off so I just glued them in place with a small amount of adhesive.

Your idea of silicone sounds like the best bet for people who still have the covers. They should stay in place and yet come off when they are needed to actually anchor the child safety seat.
I would think painting the covers might solve the drying issue. Perhaps even a high-temp paint. Just take a cover in the car parts place and find a reasonably good match.
Thanks for the silicone idea. I had planned on using Loc-tite, which is not recommended for plastics.

They are available at sng barratt at 53 dollars each

It is only worthwhile buying new as second hard are usually broken (if can be found at all).

My interior guy ordered three new ones from Ford. He says they are the same as in the Ford Taurus of that age. Mine were all melted and crumbled the first time I touched them. He will paint them to match my car interior. Will upload pics when done.

The interior guy bought these originals. Can’t remember how much do they cost, but it was worth it. The car looks brand new now.
